About Position:
The school based Behavioral Health Consultant II (BHCII) works as a part of a multidisciplinary school-based treatment team to facilitate the provision of holistic, whole-person behavioral health services and programming for students within a school based behavioral health center. The BHC II provides screening, consultation, education, evidence-based psychological interventions and treatment for students/families (patients) in the school based behavioral health center. The BHC II provides consultation and treatment planning support for the school system team (school counselors, school administrators, social workers, and teaching personnel) to meet the needs of individual students and school programs. The BHC II provides psychological interventions with students who are experiencing psychosocial issues, behavioral/mental health concerns, chronic illnesses, behavior change needs and/or substance use concerns. The BHC II is knowledgeable of and adheres to all policies, professional practice standards, philosophies and requirements for professional clinical practice. The BHC II follows all policies and procedures of the school system and liaisons frequently with the school system team. Other duties as assigned.

- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm

Duties/Responsibilities -
- Co-manages patients with school counselor and other members of the school system team.
- Routinely conducts brief, evidenced based and developmentally sensitive screens for alcohol and substance use.
- Routinely conducts brief, evidenced based and developmentally sensitive screens for mental health problems.
- Expertise in common modalities used in school-based settings including, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, Acceptance and Commitment, Psychoeducation, and Supportive Counseling.
- Competence in using DSM V for assessment and diagnosis of common mental health and substance use problems.
- Schedule includes individual appointments minutes), group work as applicable, consultations with school system team.
- Documents all work in electronic record efficiently that allows for unified care team communication and care plan.
- Collaborates frequently with school system team about patient needs especially as related to community resources.
- Functions independently at the school-based site.
- Responds rapidly to referrals, questions, and needs presented by the school system administrators, student team leads, counselors, and social workers.
- BHC accepts and applies feedback to future work with patients, colleagues, and school liaisons.
- BHC will assist school officials with mental health emergencies when requested, recognizing that final disposition is the school's administrative decision.
- BHC will provide expertise to school system team members, as applicable.
- BHC will engage in both formal and informal trainings related to areas of opportunity relevant to increasing competency and expertise within integrated behavioral health.
- BHC is readily accessible for warm handoffs assuring open access for patients.
- BHC huddles (formal or informal) frequently with multiple members (i.e. school counselor, social workers, school administrators, teaching personnel) of the school system team.
- BHC recognizes own opportunities and seeks guidance from the Director of Behavioral Health.
- BHC develops positive working relationships with the school officials and engages in school events as applicable/appropriate.
- Clearly conveys information in a nonjudgmental manner about behavior health, general health, and health behaviors using patient centered concept free of jargon and acronyms.
Qualifications -
Education/Experience:
- Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related behavioral health discipline
- 3 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in behavioral health, care coordination, or chronic disease management.
- Experience working with diverse child and adolescent populations, addressing behavioral, emotional and developmental needs.
- Experience with chronic medical and mental health conditions, preferred.
Licensure -
A valid North Carolina professional license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC).
Immunizations: Be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up-to-date prior to beginning employment.
Pay Range:
$71,088 - $95,536
