Central Lincoln People's Utility District seeks full time Utility Helper to work with our Newport Line Crew. The position will be open for applications for one week beginning 10/06/2025 and closing 10/13/2025 at 7:00 AM. If no internal bids are received, this posting will be made public for an additional seven days.

JOB SUMMARY:

Your job in the department is to . . .

Perform a variety of maintenance and general labor functions as part of a crew or individually under the direction of a Line Foreman, Serviceman or Journeyman Lineman.

Your job also involves . . .

Perform utility locating for electric facilities, meter reads, and installation of single-phase self-contained meters.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasks listed are intended to be descriptive and not restrictive. An employee in this classification may perform any of the tasks listed; however, these examples do not include all the tasks which an employee may be expected to perform and may change as determined by the needs of the company.

The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits. The amount of time performing each function may vary day-to-day. All duties shall be performed in an efficient and professional manner in accordance with applicable labor agreements and Central Lincoln's Safety Manual and under the direct supervision of a designated supervisor.

Utility Helpers will be subject to a probationary period of one (1) year. During this period, they must demonstrate their suitability for the position. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, the Utility Helper will be granted regular status.

Utility Helpers have one year to get on the apprentice roster or face disciplinary actions leading up to and including termination. Utility Helper(S) can only decline one line or tree apprenticeship that they are on the roster for within their division. However, Utility Helper(s) can decline once to a shop apprenticeship, even it it's outside their division. If a Utility Helper turns down a second apprenticeship offer, they will face disciplinary actions leading up to and including termination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education Level:

High School Diploma / GED

Specifics: Graduate from an accredited Line School is preferred.

Minimum Experience Level:

None

Specifics: Prior work experience working outdoors in all weather conditions is preferred.

Substitution Note: Any combination of education, experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the required job functions may be qualifying.

Certifications:

Specifics: First Aid/CPR

Driver's License:

CDL License required

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of a Line Foreman, Serviceman, or Journeyman Lineman, perform general labor tasks to assist in maintaining and repairing Central Lincoln's electric system facilities.

  • Perform locates of Central Lincoln's underground facilities.
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained and trucks are stocked with materials that are frequently used in day-to-day operations.
    Use and care of various hand and power tools associated with line work.

Actively and positively participate in department meetings, safety meetings, and tailboards.

May assist the Storekeeper positions in all aspects of warehouse operations.

Complete timecards, reports, data tickets, logs, job-related forms, and other similar paperwork accurately, completely, timely, and in the format prescribed and explained by Human Resources or supervisors.

Maintain regular, consistent, and predictable attendance, including being available, accessible, and able to complete all required essential functions and assigned job tasks during the assigned work schedule.

Communicate in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner with all employees, customers, the Board of Directors, and others with whom we may work. Contribute to a successful work group and foster a team-oriented culture through positive interactions, active listening, meaningful collaborations, and the constructive exchange of ideas designed to meet or exceed Central Lincoln's strategic goals.
