    Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave

  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile:

  • This position requires a High School Diploma or GED

  • Knowledge of building trades, city codes, and ADA codes

  • Asbestos class 1 license is required (class to be provided by the District). Must be able to wear a respirator

  • Maintain a valid Kansas driver's license at all times throughout employment

  • A minimum of 5 years prior experience in the trades required

Job Title:  Building Finishes Supervisor

Position Function\: The Building Finishes Supervisor is directly responsible for all personnel and work in the department. Possess exceptional knowledge and skill in general construction and finishes and has the ability to carry out assignments and perform excellent quality work with minimum supervision. Overseeing day to day functions and coordination of the department projects in an efficient and safe manner. Work closely with supervisory peers, design and construction, and building staff.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, set, and lead by example the work standard of the building repair and paint department regarding quality, quantity, and customer satisfaction
  • Purchase all material and equipment for efficient unit operation, observing purchasing schedules and regulations
  • Assist in the hiring and performance management of personnel
  • Accept responsibility for assisting with training, skill development and supervising team members
  • Assure compliance with all applicable safety standards
  • Review and assist employees with their goals in their Classified Employee Performance Appraisal
  • Maintain required data for unit function and accountability
  • Prepare, monitor, and update the unit's long-range project plan
  • Ability to prepare, submit, and monitor the unit's annual budget and operate within the approved budget
  • Implement effective/efficient methods for completing jobs on schedule, utilizing materials, and job satisfaction for both employee and customer
  • The position also requires after hours trips to buildings for a variety of concerns including equipment failure, meetings with building personnel, and response to emergency situations
  • Perform mandatory snow removal
  • Attendance at required meetings and in-service training
  • Plan, estimate and schedule unit work projects in coordination with Design and Construction or others who are involved with a specific job
  • Work with prints and drawings
  • Responsible for overseeing tool, equipment, and material inventory
  • Possess a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service
  • Responsible for overseeing and prioritizing all building repair and paint projects and preventative maintenance.

Additional Duties\: Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Director/Manager of BGMS.

Equipment\: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use various equipment assigned to the position as needed. This position may require the ability to use iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Employees must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.

Travel\: Travel between schools and to central offices will be required.

  • Ability to work indoors in extreme heat or cold and outdoors in inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow

  • Ability to wear proper safety equipment as required while performing the various responsibilities required for this position

  • Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines and delivery of services

  • Ability to work in confined or high places, some strenuous physical work

  • Ability to work overtime will be required

  • Coordinate work for 1st and 2nd shift personnel

  • Respond to work site and personnel 1st and/or 2nd shiftLimited (0-1 hour)\: Keyboarding/ mouse and high impact vibratory tools (bucking/riveting)

  • Occasional (1-3 hours)\: Below the waist reaching, waist to shoulder reaching, overhead reaching, sitting, climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, other), Operating foot controls, kneeling, crouching (squatting), crawling, lying down (back, side, front) and repetitive motion (multiple manipulation of same muscle group)

  •  Frequent (3-6 hours)\: Standing, walking, rotation of head/ neck, flexion (head bend down and head bend back), bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, forceful gripping and fine finger manipulation

  • Constant (6-8 hours)\: Total reaching and handling/ grasping

  • Exposure to\: Dust, odors, fumes, and chemicals (solvents, adhesives, contact cement, mastic remover, saw dust, caulking, paint, glue, brush wash, asbestos and acrylic sealant
