Overview
We're looking for a passionate and experienced educator to lead NCOAE's intensive EMT training programs. This role is a great fit for someone who thrives in both the classroom and behind the scenes—balancing direct teaching with program development and administrative work.
What you'll do:
As Program Director, you'll spend about 40% of your time teaching and mentoring students through our immersive EMT training courses, helping them build real-world skills and confidence. The remaining 60% of your time will focus on administrative tasks like scheduling, program planning, ensuring quality standards, and supporting our mission and strong culture.
You will take the lead in fostering and maintaining NCOAE's strong staff culture, dedicating time to ensure instructors and staff are consistently trained to NCOAE standards. This role focuses on supporting team morale, building a positive and professional work environment, and assisting the team in upholding the highest quality of staff performance and experience.

You'll report directly to our Executive Director and collaborate closely with the Executive Assistant and other program staff.
Minimum Qualifications (successful candidate must)
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
- Hold a EMT, Advanced EMT or Paramedic certification by the North Carolina Office of EMS (OEMS) and/or NREMT
- Hold or is working towards NC Level I Instructor certification or equivalent from other state—and move towards the Level II NCOEMS Instructor cert
- Have 3+ years' experience in the delivery of out of hospital care
- Have 3+ years' experience teaching, testing and evaluating students
- Have 3+ years' experience managing and supervising others
- Be creative and have an openness to change
- Have strong oral and written communication skills, strong computer skills and commitment to the use of technology in instruction
- Have an ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment and have a high level of critical thinking skills, and the ability to work at an efficient pace
- Understands of all NCOAE's programming
- Be an organized and innovative problem solver who can consider all possibilities when managing challenging situations Proven ability to manage and motive staff as a cohesive team
- Understand and respect the need to default to written procedure, and will ask for help whenever the need should arise
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with online instruction via Learning Management System
- Credentialed/Certified in Wilderness Medicine
- Understanding of concepts and education in Wilderness Medicine
Major Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate matters related to NCOAE's EMS programing including agency licenses partnerships, staff, program growth, vehicles, equipment and program logistics
- Ensure compliance with local, state and federal EMS regulations
- Review, update and enforce program policies and procedures
- Instruct program curriculum
- Recruit, interview, train, supervise and evaluate instructors
- Coordinate course outline, itinerary and schedule
- Participate in Team Meetings
- Maintain EMS program budget
- Maintain compliance with local, state and federal EMS regulations
- Provide academic mentoring for students
- Assists NCOAE with the development and implementation of long-range goals
- Conduct systematic evaluation of courses and instructional activities
- Identify training/educational needs and develop curriculum as needed
- Maintain professional credentials required for EMS instruction and accreditation
Physical Requirements
Extensive use of computer keyboards and the telephone is required, as is the ability to lift and carry approximately 50 lbs. of equipment. As noted above, some travel may be required.
