Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to ICU patients by performing thorough physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, and detailed patient assessments.
  • Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and sedation, following strict aseptic techniques and hospital protocols.
  • Manage airway devices such as ventilators and perform advanced airway management to ensure patient stability.
  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations including blood draws for laboratory testing (phlebotomy), specimen collection/processing, and interpreting lab results using systems like Cerner or Epic.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems effectively for documentation of patient care activities, medical records, and medical documentation standards compliant with HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, and long-term care strategies for complex cases involving memory care or behavioral health needs.
  • Provide critical interventions during emergencies such as trauma incidents or acute pain episodes, including triage and rapid response procedures.
  • Support patients with diverse needs including those with developmental disabilities or requiring specialized care such as ostomy or dialysis management.
  • Maintain infection control practices rigorously while performing procedures like suturing, catheterization (urinary or vascular), tube feeding management, and sterile processing.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medication administration, pain management techniques, and health coaching to promote recovery and well-being.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards and ICD coding practices (ICD-10/ICD-9).

Requirements

  • Valid RN license with current registration; experience in ICU or critical care settings is essential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic; familiarity with medical imaging modalities like sonography is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to intensive care medicine.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced procedures including ventilator management, IV insertion/infusion therapies, catheterization (urinary/cardiac), and aseptic techniques.
  • Critical care experience in hospital environments such as Level I or Level II trauma centers preferred; experience working in emergency medicine or trauma medicine is highly valued.
  • Ability to perform complex patient assessments quickly and accurately under pressure; triage skills are essential.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including physicians specializing in cardiology, infectious disease care, geriatrics, pediatrics, or behavioral health.
  • Knowledge of infection control protocols and compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required.
