Operations Director

OPPORTUNITY

The Operations Director must ensure that the operations run smoothly. Ensure that tasks are optimally distributed among departments/employees and, if necessary, strategize with department supervisors to reorganize the process so that the organization runs as effectively and efficiently as possible.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

This role reports to the VP of Operations and is located on-site in Essex County, NJ

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee production manager's scheduling of employees. Ensure all operations are carried out in an appropriate and cost-effective manner.
• Assist, recommend and /or purchase materials. Oversee warehouse efficiency, monitor and track inventory levels and ensure inventory is taken accurately.
• Oversee equipment and production processes. Monitor overall productivity and implement new strategies to increase efficiencies.
• Oversee daily operations. When necessary, formulate strategic and operational objectives to meet production goals.
• Lead daily cross-functional production meeting to review prior day performance and focus for current day/week.
• Resolve conflicts between staff and departments.
• Collaborate with HR regarding hiring new employees.
• Work with Human Resources regarding employee performance and training programs, oversee progress.
• Monitor compliance with safety programs and regulations.
• Oversee quality assurance for resources and product testing.
• Participate with developing assessment plans for quality assurance. Assist with internal and customer audits, interviews, inspections and CAPA resolution.
• Analyze production and quality performance within assigned departments.
• Assist, recommend and purchase equipment as needed.
• Manage budgets and forecasts. Assist with budgetary items and recommend Capital Budget initiatives.
• Encourage and improve communication across departments and staff members.
• Assist with establishing team-building activities to improve KPI (Key Performance Initiatives). Assist with setting target goals. Monitor progress, adjusting plans as needed to meet goals. Analyze initiatives for KPIs and suggest improvement.
• Review improvement performances of team activities
• Analyze monthly financial data for discrepancies and potential pitfalls
• Assist with improving operational systems, processes and policies in support of the organization's mission.
• Participate in monthly Management Review process and provide commentary on information captured during the past month's activities.
• Play a significant role in long-term planning, including initiatives geared towards operational excellence.
• Make sure established company procedures are being followed.
• Ensure proper housekeeping is maintained throughout all company facilities both inside and surrounding outside properties.

SKILLS

• Strong operational experience in Print/Packaging space, ideally with technical experience with printing presses such as Mark Andy or Lombardi.
• Ability to hire and develop L3 leadership within business
• Strong customer focus and ability to communicate and support Sales team
• Prior P&L ownership experience
• Good communication skills (written & verbal) to leadership, staff and associates
• Lean and 5S experience
• Excellent leadership skills
• Proficient at Microsoft Office
• Ability to be on-site 5 days per week
• Ability to work cross functionally across the organization (finance, sales, leadership, etc)

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 10 years of previous experience running a Flexo pressure-sensitive label manufacturing plant or similar facility
• Experience in Shrink Film, Flexible Packaging, and Digital Printing would be a big plus
• Deep industry knowledge, specifically in the label manufacturing and packaging sectors
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Strong supervisory skills
