Position Summary

The Senior Director of Academic Operations & Technologies provides innovative oversight and strategic leadership of key business processes, operations and technology in alignment and support of college wide processes as they relate to academic programming ensuring clearly communicated alignment with P-20 and workforce pathways. The director ensures that these activities align with the College's philosophy, mission, and goals. This position directs and participates in software review, leads implementation and approval processes in alignment with Information Technology Services (ITS) policies to ensure the quality of content and delivery for all courses and programs within the Division. The director provides leadership for Education and Learning key processes such as academic calendar, student fees, textbook ordering, and all other published processes for the division and supervises related support staff. The director also oversees all data requests and reporting that is produced by the Education and Learning Business Analyst team. The senior director will report to the Associate Vice President of Education & Learning (AVPEL) and will assist the AVPEL and VPEL with data and software related projects and initiatives as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs, leads, and supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work and conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Gathers data from peer institutions for comparative analysis of process effectiveness.
  • Participates in the Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) and other collegewide teams to ensure standards and needs are met.
  • Coordinates with ITS and EMSS on technology infrastructure, policy, implementation, and other areas of mutual concern to facilitate student success.
  • Participates in regional accreditation processes and contributes to reports to ensure standards are met.
  • Provides leadership in the development and evaluation of institutional and assigned area budgeting.
  • Provides leadership in the implementation and use of the enterprise reporting programs (ERP) as it supports student success and completion, aligning across all divisions of the College, with a primary focus on academic operations.
  • Oversees and coordinates the grade appeal process and makes final determinations in collaboration with the AVPEL.
  • Serves as an advocate for the central role of the division within the college and for collaboration across CNM as it relates to business systems, processes, and operations within Education & Learning.
  • Monitors current trends in higher education, including pertinent federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Oversees and supervises the work of Business Analysts, Process Improvement, and Technology systems and processes.
  • Employees are required to comply with safety regulations, procedures, protocols, OSHA standards, and wear personal protective gear if required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

AND

  • Five (5) years of demonstrated post-secondary experience including experience in instructional administrative processes development and improvement as well as academic software review and implementation.

Preferences:

  • Five or more years of leadership experience in academic operations, institutional effectiveness, or educational technology within a higher education environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver process improvement or system implementation projects, particularly those that support academic or student services operations.
  • Experience supervising teams responsible for business analysis, systems integration, and data or reporting functions.
  • Working familiarity with common higher education systems, including ERP platforms (such as Ellucian Banner, Workday, or PeopleSoft), learning management systems (such as Brightspace), and data/reporting tools like SAS, Power BI, Argos, or Tableau.
  • Background in teaching or academic program support that provides insight into faculty needs, instructional priorities, and student learning experiences.
