About MAPA
The Minnesota Asphalt Pavement Association (MAPA) is the voice of the asphalt industry in Minnesota. We represent producers, contractors, suppliers, and partners committed to quality, innovation, and collaboration in building and maintaining the state's roadways. Our mission is to advance the asphalt paving industry through education, advocacy, technical expertise, and partnerships.
Position Summary
MAPA is seeking a dynamic and motivated Associate Director to provide technical expertise, manage programs, and engage members. This role requires initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple projects. The Associate Director will collaborate closely with the Executive Director and play a key role in advancing MAPA's mission across technical, educational, legislative, and outreach initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Member & Customer Engagement
- Conduct customer visits with counties, cities, and MnDOT districts.
- Serve as liaison with APWA, AMC, LMC, ACEC, MAT, and local governments.
- Respond to member technical calls and project visits.
- Strengthen member satisfaction and retention through proactive customer service.
Program & Committee Management
- Manage MAPA's training programs (online and in-person equipment training).
- Coordinate Bituminous & Industry Committees.
- Administer the annual awards program.
- Maintain and update technical resources, one-pagers, and member-facing collateral.
Technical Leadership
- Track and contribute to asphalt-related specification development and revisions.
- Support members on applied technical issues and emerging technologies.
- Monitor tonnage forecasts and production tracking.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations at MAPA events and industry forums.
Communications & Outreach
- Develop accessible technical collateral for members and stakeholders.
- Represent MAPA at events, conferences, and training sessions.
- Support consistent messaging across newsletters, website, and social media.
Required Skills & Attributes
- Self-Motivation & Initiative: Ability to work independently and proactively.
- Project Management: Skilled at organizing and delivering multiple programs.
- Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and deliver value.
- Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with asphalt materials, specifications, or construction practices preferred.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication; confident public speaker.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively across agencies, contractors, and member companies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred; equivalent experience considered).
- 3–5 years of relevant industry, association, or program management experience.
- Familiarity with MnDOT, local government, and industry association structures desirable.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $90,000 – $110,000, commensurate with experience.
