Summary:
Anaconda's Security Engineering team protects and enables innovation—ensuring every product, platform, and service is secure by default. We reduce risk through automation, empower developers with secure tooling, and build guardrails that let teams move fast while staying safe. We're curious by default, investigating emerging threats and exploring new approaches to security challenges. Our work advances Anaconda's mission by protecting the infrastructure that powers open-source AI and data science for millions of users worldwide.
As a Security Engineer, you'll safeguard our cloud infrastructure, applications, and data by building together with Platform Engineering, IT, and Compliance teams. You'll balance security enablement with governance, helping teams move quickly without compromising our security posture. You'll own it from threat identification through remediation, and lead with guts and heart by making pragmatic security decisions that protect users while enabling innovation.
What You'll Do:You'll operate across security operations, secure development, and compliance—working closely with engineering and platform teams to identify risks, implement controls, and enable secure development practices. Your work will directly impact how safely and quickly Anaconda can innovate and serve our community.
- Conduct security assessments and penetration testing across Anaconda's cloud infrastructure, open-source projects, and customer-facing products to identify and remediate vulnerabilities before they impact users
- Monitor, triage, and respond to security alerts and incidents, leading remediation efforts while collaborating transparently with cross-functional teams to close the loop on threats
- Partner with development teams to embed security into the SDLC, conducting code reviews, supporting threat modeling exercises, and providing guidance that enables engineers to build securely from the start
- Drive adoption of security tooling and automation to reduce friction, improve visibility, and help teams ship faster without sacrificing security—owning implementation from planning through delivery
- Support identity, access management, and compliance initiatives including ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2, and GDPR, contributing to policies and controls that protect customer data
- Champion security-by-design culture through documentation, training, and tooling that makes security accessible and actionable for technical and non-technical stakeholders alike
- 3+ years of experience in product security, application security, cloud security, or security engineering
- Experience with security tools including vulnerability scanners, SIEM platforms, code analysis tools, or intrusion detection systems
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes or Docker)
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (Python, Bash, or Go) for security automation
- Demonstrated experience conducting security assessments, code reviews, or penetration testing
- Track record of independently managing security projects from planning through delivery
- Experience transitioning from software development, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering into security—bringing a builder's perspective to security challenges
- Track record working in fully remote environments with distributed, asynchronous teams
- Hands-on experience with Anaconda's tech stack: Python ecosystems, open-source supply chain security, or conda/pip package management
- Demonstrated impact implementing security tooling such as Snyk, GitHub Advanced Security, CrowdStrike Falcon, or equivalent platforms at scale
- Experience implementing identity and access management systems (OAuth2, Okta, WorkOS) in production environments
- Direct contribution to compliance programs (ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR) including controls implementation and audit support
- Security certifications including CISSP, CISA, CCSP, CEH, or OSCP
- You'll thrive in a high-performance environment where results are recognized and rewarded
- Your work directly contributes to shaping the future of data science, machine learning, and AI in the enterprise.
- You'll work alongside a collaborative team that values diverse, thoughtful discussion, clarity and candor.
- You'll be supported by a culture that puts employees first - with flexible hours, a fully remote setup, and a genuine commitment to your wellbeing and growth.
