Material/Process Inspector I, II or III

Performs complex material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and at points of supply. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:Material/Process Inspector I
- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers.
- Maintains and calibrates equipment.
- Performs tests and inspection duties.
- Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
- Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing
- Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Material/Process Inspector II
In addition to the duties listed above
- Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors
- Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports
- Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements
Material/Process Inspector III
In addition to the duties listed above
- Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers and field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems
- Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
- Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:Material/Process Inspector I: None Required
Material/Process Inspector II: 1 year of experience in laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering related work.
Material/Process Inspector III: 2 years of experience in laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering related work.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualification
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

No certification required; must have or obtain the required licenses or certifications listed below within twelve (12) months of date of hire.

- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and above 100 degrees for more than one hour

- Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
- Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine
- Pushing-using upper extremities to press against object with force to move in a direction
- Pulling-using upper extremities to exert force moving objects in a sustained motion
- Lifting-raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position
- Grasping-applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm
- Visual Acuity-operate machines
