OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

Provide safety-focused direction and leadership to ensure all aspects of the West Elk Mine Maintenance Department operate safely, efficiently, effectively and within budget parameters

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop and implement safe job procedures as needed
  • Plan and direct maintenance department activities, including budgeting
  • Assure safe, efficient, reliable servicing of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Provide oversight in work scheduling and deployment of personnel for all shifts
  • Remain current with equipment status and service/repair requirements
  • Maintain power distribution for all mine activities
  • Recommend equipment replacements and innovative fabrication methods
  • Direct and approve requisition of necessary parts and supplies for maintenance
  • Inspect mine and equipment conditions to ensure safe efficient operations
  • Assure compliance with Federal and state law
  • Communicate with and remain current with all departments, especially as matters relate to maintenance
  • Assure strong recruiting and development of maintenance personnel; foster continuous improvement
  • Actively support and promote the Behavioral Based Safety Process

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent mining experience
  • Minimum of seven years underground coal mine experience with three or more years as supervisor and beyond
  • Extensive knowledge of Longwall, Continuous Mining Section and Surface Maintenance
  • Colorado Underground Mine Foreman Certification, Electrical Certification, MSHA Trainer, and MSHA noise and dust sampling, must have financial aptitude and be willing to develop budgeting knowledge, skills and capabilities
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and safety management skills
  • Demonstrated excellent computer and other technology skills, knowledge and ability
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of all aspects of underground coal mine maintenance and operations
