About the Role:We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Engineering Manager, Data Engineering to lead our team and drive Aircall's next phase of growth. In this strategic leadership role, you will oversee the design, development, and evolution of our enterprise data infrastructure while fostering a high-performing team culture. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, translating technical capabilities into business impact and championing innovation in data engineering.

This role demands a leader who excels in people management, technical excellence, and cross-functional collaboration. You will elevate team productivity, mentor emerging talent, and ensure our data platforms scale seamlessly to meet Aircall's ambitious goals.

Your Mission @ Aircall:

1. Lead Teams & Drive Performance

- Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing data engineering team, setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and accountability.

- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for skill development and career growth.

- Champion best practices in code quality, data governance, and operational excellence, ensuring adherence to SLAs and compliance standards.

2. Architect Scalable Data Platforms

- Oversee the design and optimization of large-scale data processing platforms (e.g., Spark, Flink) and cloud-native solutions (AWS preferred) to support business-critical pipelines.

- Drive the adoption of cutting-edge tools and frameworks to improve data reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

- Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to align infrastructure roadmaps with evolving business needs.

3. Communicate Strategically & Collaborate Cross-Functionally

- Simplify complex technical concepts into actionable insights for executives and non-technical stakeholders.

- Present data platform strategies, ROI analyses, and risk assessments to senior leadership to influence decision-making.

- Build strong partnerships with Engineering, DevOps, Product, and Business teams to break down silos and deliver cross-functional solutions.

4. Lead with Empathy & Approachability

- Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment where team members feel empowered to innovate and share ideas.

- Balance high standards with empathy, ensuring the team remains motivated and engaged during fast-paced growth.

5. Drive Thought Leadership

- Educate business stakeholders on data engineering best practices, emerging trends, and cost/benefit tradeoffs.

- Advocate for data-driven decision-making by showcasing how scalable infrastructure unlocks business value.

- Represent Aircall as a technical leader in industry forums, conferences, or open-source communities.

A Little More About You:
  • 8+ years in data engineering, including 3+ years managing teams of 5+ engineers.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience with distributed systems (Spark, Hadoop) and modern data stacks (dbt, Airflow, Kafka). Advanced SQL/Python skills.
  • Leadership: Track record of elevating team performance, managing underperformers, and retaining top talent.
  • Communication: Exceptional storytelling and presentation skills; able to engage C-suite audiences.
  • Collaboration: Known for building trust across teams and resolving conflicts with diplomacy.
  • Innovation: Passion for exploring new technologies (e.g., GenAI/ML ops pipelines, real-time analytics) to solve business challenges.
