SUMMARY: WR has an opportunity for a hands-on Manager, Environmental Health and Safety to develop, manage, and execute company-wide EH&S policies, processes, and initiatives that ensure a safe, healthy, and responsible work environment across all WR facilities.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develops, implements, enforces, and continuously improves company-wide health and safety protocols, policies, and initiatives in accordance with internal and external requirements.
  • Acts as an EH&S champion at WR fostering a safety-oriented culture among employees; collaborates with Senior- and Executive Management to improve the health and safety program's visibility and increase employee accountability.
  • Responds to employee EH&S queries and provides guidance and oversight.
  • Designs and directs safety-training programs to reduce worksite accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to hazards.
  • Acts as the company liaison for external health and safety agencies and vendors; prepares for and manages inspections and correspondence with regulatory agencies
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company requirements.
  • Maintains Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); develops and manages company safety committee.
  • Proactively executes safety inspections and conducts job hazard analyses to identify and mitigate risks and environmental hazards.
  • Performs ship and shore-based workplace safety inspections and solves safety concerns, as requested.
  • Investigates incidents, accidents, near-misses, and potential safety issues; determines appropriate root cause analysis, provides recommendations, ensures all required documentation is in place, and implements corrective actions.
  • Collects and studies accident reports and safety-related data and applies findings as appropriate.
  • Monitors and measures EH&S program effectiveness; provides EH&S metrics and reports to Senior- and Executive Management.
  • Develops EH&S presentations to provide accurate information and instruction.
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs.
  • Executes responsibilities of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and medical surveillance programs.
  • Facilitates new policy implementation and program policy revision.
  • Prepares and delivers comprehensive staff training on general safety requirements, training tailored to specific job functions, and safety industry standards.
  • Prepares required annual government reports in collaboration with other functional areas.
  • Provides budget development inputs to ensure adequate resources for teams, programs, and initiatives; monitors and adheres to assigned budget.
  • Provides day-to-day management and leadership of assigned personnel, to include handling routine staff issues, resource allocation, training, performance management, career development, compensation management, disciplinary actions, and separation.
  • Ensures adherence to WR's Quality Management System (QMS), all contract requirements, regulatory and legal requirements, organization policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Ensures files are maintained in accordance with regulatory and organizational guidelines.

Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • Seven (7) + years of progressive experience in an occupational health and safety role.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding and analyzing local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations and developing appropriate policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting EH&S compliance assessments.
  • Ability to climb stairs, squat, and kneel.
  • Ability to push, pull, bend, stretch, and stoop.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Perform repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Possess good visual acuity and physical ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain the security of company confidential and business sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office products, specifically Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
