Job Summary
The Financial Wellness Coach will support university student success and retention initiatives by providing financial wellness coaching to students. This position will help ensure student progress toward graduation by emphasizing the development of students' understanding of personal financial choices and management as well as develop students' ability to understand how to finance their education and prepare for post-graduation success. In addition to direct student coaching, the Financial Wellness Coach will provide operational and programmatic leadership to financial wellness initiatives, ensuring smooth execution of communications, data tracking, and event-related logistics.
- Works directly with a student caseload on topics related to achieving financial wellness and academic success, while building trust with and demonstrating respect to each student.
- Applies a student-centered and solution-focused approach, helps students in developing a financial plan, identifies additional funding options that may be available to them, refers them to relevant university resources, and ensures students understand loans and repayment options.
- Ensures students are confident in their overall financial plan to fund the completion of their degree and addressing any career or post-graduation concerns students may have.
- Assists students engage with appropriate on-campus and online resources (i.e. iGrad) that will improve students' financial literacy.
- Assists with outreach to student populations and provides consistent communication to student's part of individual caseload.
- Responds to student concerns in a timely manner.
- Facilitates financial wellness workshops as needed.
- Assists the Program Manager to further enhance financial wellness program.
- Engages in monthly evaluations and professional development opportunities to continue ongoing improvement of coaching skills and student service.
- Assists with program logistics, including event planning, room reservations, and vendor coordination.
- Provides support with departmental reporting requirements, including monthly financial literacy reports, sporadic data requests, and student learning outcome reporting.
- Contributes to the review and updating of standard operating procedures and training materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of office or related experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Experience in a student-facing role within a higher education setting, such as student advising or coaching.
- Knowledge of university systems, financial aid, and/or success coaching models and student development theories.
- Experience in developing and facilitating presentations or workshops for a group audience.
