Job Summary Overview

The Senior Commercial Credit Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the credit union's commercial lending operations by performing in-depth financial analysis, spreading business and personal tax returns using Bukers/Sageworks, and contributing to the preparation of credit presentations and other credit related documents. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of credit assessments and supports sound lending decisions in alignment with regulatory requirements and internal credit policy.

Essential Job Functions

  • Analyze and spread business financial statements and personal tax returns using Bukers/Sageworks to support underwriting and portfolio management.
  • Assist underwriting and portfolio management, as assigned, in the completion of portions of the loan presentations, renewal loan presentations, credit memos, adverse action, ACH, and other related tasks.
  • Assist in the ordering of third-party reports as deemed necessary for underwriting and ongoing portfolio management.
  • Mentor and train new credit analysts, fostering technical development and consistency in analysis standards.
  • Maintain understanding of Sageworks and complete appropriate fields assigned to credit analysts for each proposed loan.
  • Navigate Microsoft Office Software, computer applications, and software specific to the department to maximize technology tools and gain efficiency.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of commercial credit policy.
  • Apply advanced credit analysis techniques, including ratio and trend analysis, to evaluate borrower risk and repayment capacity.
  • Learn and follow appropriate compliance and regulations associated with commercial lending.
  • Communicate with borrowers, as requested by underwriters, portfolio managers, and commercial loan officers, to gain stronger understanding of financial information and to obtain answers to questions.
  • Seek ongoing personal growth and development.
  • Complete work in a timely manner from a remote location and have accessibility to meet at AFCU Ops center when necessary for team meetings, training, or other related activities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related degree.
  • 2+ years of commercial banking experience as a commercial credit analyst or similar job, or related experience in finance, accounting, economics, or similar field.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication, and organizational skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Completion of Omega Commercial Lending training at AFCU or appropriate training at another institution
  • Professional written, verbal communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to produce quality work within tight time frames while managing multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work on core processing systems.
  • The position requires a strong work ethic, the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing deadlines, advanced interpersonal skills, excellent communication, strong problem-solving skills, and the desire to work as a team to support the overall success of AFCU.

Licenses, Training, and Certifications Required

None.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience in credit unions or retail banking environments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in commercial lending.
  • Proficiency in core banking systems and financial analysis software.

  • Occasional lifting, 25 pounds or less.
  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Working on a computer for extended periods of time.
