Employment Status: Full Time/Non-Exempt (40 hours/ week)

Salary: $57,289/ year

Location: The position is based in NYC, 4 days in office, 1 day remote.

Overview of the Organization:

The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) is an umbrella policy and advocacy organization for nearly 200 groups in New York State that works for justice and opportunity for immigrants and refugees. The NYIC successfully brings together multi-ethnic, multi-racial, and multi-sector constituencies to pursue a common agenda. That agenda includes: advocating for equitable immigration policies; ensuring immigrants' civil rights; encouraging immigrants' civic and electoral participation; improving immigrants' access to quality health care and education; coordinating immigration services; and educating both newcomer communities and the public at large about immigration issues.

Summary of the Position:

We are seeking a Civic Engagement Associate to support our community outreach efforts, build relationships with member organizations, and engage New Yorkers in the political process. The ideal candidate will be someone who is passionate about civic engagement and has a desire to make a positive impact in their community through the decision-making pipelines in New York State. The Civic Engagement Associate will work closely with our team to develop and implement outreach strategies, support on-the-ground field work, and engage with voters and community members.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Civic Engagement team within the NYIC's Advocacy Department and its campaigns through research, analysis, and logistical coordination.
  • Assist in coordination of Voter Registration Drives at Naturalization Ceremonies.
  • Participate in educational campaigns that help expand and improve voting rights for immigrants.
  • Assist with voter-engagement trainings and other community engagement events.
  • Provide direct support to member organizations on voter-focused outreach efforts and other civic engagement programs.
  • Build new and expand on existing civic engagement programs with the NYIC's membership.
  • Work closely with other NYIC staff to integrate civic engagement across programs and issue areas.
  • Coordinate and facilitate technical trainings around voter engagement tools.
  • Support with the regrant process of the NYIC's annual REMAP voter capacity building program.
  • Research, curate, and develop multilingual civic resources for public engagement.
  • Occasional evenings and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in civic engagement, community organizing, and working with immigrant communities in New York State.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working in organizing and/or campaigns with a strong interest in immigrant rights.
  • Familiarity with New York State and City community-based immigrant organizations is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational, verbal communication, writing and computer skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple, complex tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse staff and community partners.
  • Fluency in additional languages is an asset.
  • Authorized to work in the US for any employer

This position is mostly on-site, with a requirement of being in the office 4 days per week and remote 1 day per week.

Salary: $57,289/ year
