Director of Accounting and Finance

Purpose: Director of Accounting/Finance is responsible for leading financial decisions across Mary Lee Foundation by driving key strategic financial initiatives, generating insights into performance. This position will manage the six-million-dollar budget for three non-profits across twenty departments covering reporting, budgeting, pricing, cash flow, and accounts receivable. This role is responsible for creating and implementing policies and procedures relating to Mary Lee accounting processes and internal controls. The Director of Accounting/Finance position adheres to all policies, procedures, and standards of protocol of the Mary Lee Foundation and applicable outside agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Provides financial advice to Mary Lee's executive team and conducts technical financial analysis to support recommendations
- Reviews processes and procedures regarding regulatory changes
- Analyzes business needs and develops short- and long-range strategies, goals, and action plans to meet those needs
- Develops and monitors the assigned company budgets of approximately six-Million dollars
- Recommends major purchases and expenditures
- Develops, prepares, reviews, and presents technical financial information in oral and written communication before the Board of Directors
- Responsible for assessment and implementation of all financial reporting requirements, including underlying systems and processes
- Breaks down and articulates complex financial issues in a comprehensive manner that is clear to team members and leadership
- Motivates and leads a diverse, high performing accounting team by attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining team members
- Develops strategies to continually improve departmental processes
- Researches, analyze and benchmark strategies of peer companies, competitors, and industry trends
- Analyzes and reporting on variances to forecast and budget; identifying areas of risks or opportunity for improvement
- Coordinates with the rest of the finance team to produce monthly forecasts and long-term financial plans
- Acts as the main point of contact for external auditors, coordinating their work and providing them with necessary information.
- Responsible for the complete lifecycle management of all government and private grants, including financial oversight, budgeting, compliance monitoring, and reporting
- Ensures that all fiscal and billing processes for provider services are in compliance with state and federal regulations, coordinating with the Long-Term Care Regulatory (LTCR) division during initial, recertification, and intermittent surveys to address any financial findings
- Prepares and maintains financial records and reports for HUD Housing Program and other regulatory agencies

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- Certification as a CPA is preferred
- Minimum of five years of relevant accounting experience; CPA license may substitute for up to four years of experience
- Minimum five years non-profit management experience, with demonstrated experience building a high-performing team
- The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area
- Comfortable utilizing Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and solid understanding of 'Quickbooks' software
- Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, present and communicate financial data and insights and develop actionable recommendations
- A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with- - programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds - A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
