Tennis/Sports Instructor

The City of Alameda's Recreation and Parks Department is seeking part-time Tennis & Sports Instructors
Work schedule will vary and may include evenings and weekends, but is year round including during the summer.
Effective June 1, 2025 a new hourly salary schedule goes into effect.
Recreation Leader starting step/rate: Step 1 $17.46/hour up to Step 5 $19.27/hour
Recreation Specialist I starting step/rate: Step 1 $19.79/hour up to Step 5 $24.06/hour
Recreation Specialist II starting step/rate: Step 1 $21.99/hour up to Step 7 $29.47/hour
Alameda is an island city of 78,000 located next to the city of Oakland and offers a full-service municipal recreation program. Currently there are five tennis court complexes in the City of Alameda.

The mission of the Alameda Recreation and Park Department is to provide programs to the community with trained staff. A wide variety of social, physical and educational opportunities are offered for personal enrichment through wholesome and creative use of leisure time.

Below are some of the standards expected of Recreation and Park Department Staff:

BEHAVIOR:
Staff are expected to always be respectful of others and maintain a friendly, courteous and professional attitude.

APPEARANCE:
Depending on the assignment, staff must wear either professional business attire or a Department uniform that includes a staff shirt and name badge. Uniforms are provided. Staff must maintain facilities and help keep them neat and clean.

WORK QUALITY:
Staff are expected to perform quality work and to plan effectively and efficiently.

FLEXIBILITY:
Staff work hours vary due to Department needs (nights, weekends and holidays). Staff may be asked to perform work assignments outside their area of original employment.

RECREATION SPECIALIST I (TENNIS/SPORTS INSTRUCTOR)
($ $24.06/hour)

Instructors will create lessons for groups and individuals including kids and adults, may help set up, take down, store equipment, and perform other duties as required.

ALL POSITIONS
require current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR and a recent T.B. Testprior to the beginning of the program or agree to get both as a condition of being hired. Must be age 16 or older by the time of employment to apply.

SELECTION PROCESS:
To be considered, candidates must submit a completed City of Alameda Job Application form online. Applicants will be screened and evaluated based on the information provided. Federal law requires that, prior to employment, applicants must furnish proof of identity and eligibility for employment in the United States.

FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT:
California State Law requires that all recreation employees and volunteers having direct contact, supervisory or disciplinary authority over minors be fingerprinted as a condition of employment. Candidates given a conditional offer of employment will be referred for fingerprinting. Employment is conditioned upon fingerprint results.

E-VERIFY:
The City of Alameda utilizes the Federal government's E-Verify program and new employees must provide documentation to establish both identity and work authorization, which includes showing a valid United States Social Security card at the time of hire (photocopies not accepted).

Part-time positions with the City of Alameda may be eligible for limited benefits and are considered "at-will." Part-time employment is at the discretion of the hiring department. Work schedules vary but may not exceed 28 hours per week.
