Description:

As a User Experience (UX) Researcher, you conduct research projects of medium complexity to learn about users and their needs with little oversight. You use a variety of methods to collect and analyze data, and then share your findings with the team to improve products and services. You create high-quality communications about findings and recommendations and have a deep understanding of user needs, pain points, motivations, values, goals, constraints, and opportunities. You have a close working relationship with your team and participate in cross-team collaborations with peers. You are always learning and growing in your field.

Responsibilities Include:

  • With minimal guidance, identify ideas to improve products and services through research-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Utilize user-centric thinking to unblock and inspire partners and collaboratively solve moderately scoped constraints in strategy, product, or technology.
  • Contribute to developing a holistic research program by planning, designing, and engaging in strategic and tactical research that informs the product/service/business while increasing knowledge about users.
  • Identify and adapt to evolving user needs by adapting research approaches. Execute analysis for medium-sized research projects or programs. Quantitative researchers may contribute to code reviews, if applicable.
  • Conduct moderately scoped research to identify user needs and business opportunities that further product and business goals by demonstrating understanding and empathy of the user and the business.
  • Perform research that increases user empathy and informs user-centric thinking with cross-functional partners.
  • Plan and prioritize research across projects in alignment with larger project goals and communicate priorities to team members.
  • Collaborate with partners to identify opportunities to expand responsibilities within the immediate product team. Anticipate and remove roadblocks with the potential to impede progress, with minimal guidance from senior team members or managers.
  • Guide product direction through research by analyzing, consolidating, or synthesizing what is known about user, product, service, or business needs, with minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrate awareness of how multiple qualitative and quantitative research efforts come together to influence the team or project.
  • Help to identify, create, and effectively apply key insights and metrics in the evaluation of product or service impact.
  • Utilize understanding of the business goals, product ecosystem, and user trends to guide research-driven, user-centric thinking and decision-making.
  • Build consensus within one or more projects/teams and gain support for research-based, user-centric solutions.
  • Communicate research insights and recommendations to stakeholders and work to apply and integrate into product and planning.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Run competitive analysis.
  • Design, run, and interpret qualitative and quantitative user studies.
  • Execute study plans for HF & ergonomics/UX/UI/usability studies, Out Of the Box Experience (OOBE) studies, and early exploration contextual studies in the field.
  • Prepare user testing activities (e.g., create screener, recruit participants, lab setup, coordinate support materials, etc.).
  • Run user research sessions in the lab and field.
  • Convey findings and formulate recommendations clearly utilizing critical thinking.
  • Establish rapport with stakeholders, understand their requests, and present research findings that address their questions.
  • Collaborate with other researchers on reviewing study plans, suggesting methodologies, assisting with data analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Preferably M.A./M.S. or Ph.D. in Human Factors (preferred), Cognitive Psychology, HCI/Computer Science, Anthropology, or other fields emphasizing human behavior.
  • B.S. in Cognitive or Experimental Psychology or other fields involving experimental design (I.D., M.E., or E.E.) or extensive work experience have potential for consideration.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience or internship in a UX research role.
  • Experience converting research findings into actionable insights for product design.
  • Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product development phase.
  • Solid working skills in CAD (Solidworks, CREO, Rhino, or other packages), including complex shape measurements, creation of simple prototypes, and complex part alignments.
  • Excellent observational, interpersonal, oral and written communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Can work independently and prioritize time between multiple projects and be flexible by adapting to changing schedules and different projects.
  • Familiarity with basic graphic and video editing tools desired.
  • Ability to understand the strategic impact and how to maintain best practices.
  • Ability to anticipate needs of the team and escalate them to the manager.
