CyberStorm Defense is seeking a Software Engineer (Automation / Integration) to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) in designing, developing, and integrating automation software for National Airspace System (NAS) modernization initiatives.

This role supports FAA Enterprise Services (AJM-3) and Program Management Organization (PMO) teams by developing and maintaining software that connects FAA systems, optimizes operations, and automates workflows across mission-critical domains such as SWIM, TBFM, TFDM, and STARS.

The engineer will apply advanced automation, API integration, and software development principles to improve performance, security, and maintainability of FAA enterprise and NAS systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automation and integration software supporting FAA NAS and enterprise applications.
  • Develop and deploy microservices, APIs, and data pipelines connecting legacy and cloud-based FAA systems.
  • Automate FAA operational workflows, monitoring, and configuration management using modern DevSecOps frameworks.
  • Collaborate with FAA PMO and TechOps engineers to integrate automation tools with NAS systems and databases.
  • Implement secure software development practices in compliance with FAA AMS, FedRAMP, and NIST requirements.
  • Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and automated regression testing for all code releases.
  • Support the transition of FAA applications from legacy environments to containerized and cloud-native architectures.
  • Document software design, integration logic, and configuration management details per AMS standards.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (cybersecurity, network, human factors, systems engineering) to ensure integrated solution delivery.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • 7 + years of software engineering experience supporting large-scale enterprise or aviation systems.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, C#, or Go and scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash.
  • Experience developing and maintaining RESTful APIs, microservices, and automation frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Working knowledge of FAA AMS, system integration, and software configuration management practices.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior support to FAA AJM-3, AJM-2, or TechOps (AJW).
  • Experience with SWIM, STARS, or other NAS systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native application development (AWS/Azure Government).
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), API security, and data encryption best practices.
  • Certifications: AWS Developer Associate, Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert, or DoD 8570 IAT II/III equivalent.
  • Active Public Trust or higher clearance preferred.
