Advanced Product Development Systems Senior Staff Engineer
5 days ago
The Advanced Product Development (APD) Systems Senior Staff Engineer will lead elements of the systems design and development for an Edison Works New Product Introduction (NPI) program as an experienced technical expert in External Hardware Systems Engineering. This is the design and integration of the system of tubes, clamps, brackets, and related hardware supporting the external architecture design of the engine. This person will lead initiatives and sub-system teams by lending a depth of expertise or breadth of experience to less experienced teammates. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring in the areas of systems engineering, mechanical and/or thermal design fundamentals, test, producibility, and engine certification/qualification. This is a role for someone with established technical and programmatic engineering skills who not only understands how to increase their impact by building the capabilities of the team but can also "lead by doing." This position includes the opportunity to integrate with various internal & external engineering disciplines. This position will impact engineering approaches, projects, and programs in the functional area or affected business organization. As well as impacts quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the team, and has significant input into priorities. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.
The APD Section is inventing the future of flight and advancing propulsion capability for the next generation of military applications. APD's focus is the design, integration, testing, and support of advanced technologies for new and derivative engine concepts. Technology areas include military inlet & exhaust systems, integrated propulsion power & thermal management systems, advanced material systems, and other breakthrough component and system technologies to support the future of military flight.
Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process that consider both the business' needs and the technical needs of the customers. Systems engineers execute a robust design, creation, and optimization of systems. This is done by identifying and quantifying system requirements, creating alternate system design concepts, performing design trade studies, selecting/implementing the best designs, and verifying that the design is properly integrated and executed.
This role has significant autonomy. High levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes.
