Welder

Since 1946, Potomac Steel Inc. has been serving commercial and industrial clients. Under new management in 2015, we are licensed and insured with specializations in steel, aluminum, heavy hardware, and industrial and commercial supplies.

We are seeking a Welder.

Primary duties include: Welding, forming, rolling, grinding, cutting, and sanding metal, and general labor.

Responsibilities:

• You will set up, adjust, and operate manual, semi-automatic, and automatic welding equipment
• You will work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, or specifications to complete welding related inspections or tests.
• You will plan, layout, set up, and carry through all operations to complete welding tasks.
• You will determine heating or welding characteristics of metals to perform welding tasks.
• You will use measuring tools to verify metal parts and structures meet required size, shape, and thickness.
• You will use personal protective equipment (e.g., protective clothing, gloves, flash shield, eye goggles) to complete welding work assignments.

Qualifications:

• High school education is required with a minimum of three years of journeyman level experience.
• AWS welder certification is preferred.
• Prefer experience in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW.
• Good knowledge of maintenance procedures and practices as related to areas of responsibility and safety standards and practices.
• Considerable skill in making decisions and solving problems.
• Ability to apply welding, sheet metal and other metal fabrication techniques, and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
• Must be able to operate a shop fabrication tools safely and effectively.
• Good skills in oral and written communication.
• Working knowledge of drawings, schematics, and sketches.
• Must be able to work from ladders, platforms, scaffolds and manlift equipment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Energy (DOE) "L" clearance for duration of employment.
• Must be capable of satisfactorily completing facility specific, continuous, and professional development training as required for duration of employment.
• Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining medical qualifications so as not to limit satisfaction of the minimum requirements defined in this document for the duration of employment.
• Must have industrial fitting and stainless-steel welding experience.
• Ability obtain and maintain INL welding qualifications to perform quality level welds.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license for duration of employment.

Physical Effort: The work may involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions such as when welding in hard to reach places. May handle objects weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds, in setting up work and equipment and in completing assignments.

Working Conditions: The work is done indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather, in areas that may vary from "clean rooms" to areas that are noisy, dirty, and smoky. Welding involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches and heated materials, the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. The work may require wearing protective clothing, such as, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggles.

Working Days: Monday-Friday

Working Hours: 7.30am- 4pm

Salary will be determined based on experience and skill level.
