Venue Audio Visual Director

Boston, Massachusetts, United States Moonrise Audio Visual Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

Position Overview

Moonrise Audio Visual is seeking a Venue Director to lead the business, production, and creative success of an assigned venue location. This role is designed for a leader who thrives in a production-first environment and can own the full sales cycle—from prospecting through proposal, closing, execution, and post-event follow-up.

As Venue Director, you'll be the creative and operational linchpin. You'll manage a hybrid team of freelancers and full-time staff, deliver high-impact experiences, and ensure Moonrise's design-centric standards are upheld at every turn. You'll report directly to the Company Principal and oversee annual venue revenues in the range of $500,000 to $750,000, with compensation structured as base salary plus commission.

Sales, Strategy & Growth

  • Lead the entire sales cycle for your venue: generate leads, cultivate client relationships, deliver proposals, negotiate, and close.
  • Position Moonrise as a strategic production partner—not just a vendor—through creative solutions and consultative selling.
  • Identify upsell and value-add opportunities that elevate event experiences and boost revenue.
  • Maintain and manage a robust pipeline, forecast sales, and report metrics to leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to uncover growth channels and new venue partnerships.

Financial & Business Management

  • Own profitability: monitor margins, budgets, and performance drivers.
  • Oversee client billing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and transparency.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve venue utilization, repeat business, and sales velocity.
  • Report regularly to the Company Principal with data-driven insights and recommendations.

Production & Technical Oversight

  • Lead and oversee all AV, lighting, video, and streaming operations—ensuring every event meets Moonrise's standard for excellence.
  • Act as the on-site production lead when needed, guiding troubleshooting, crew coordination, and technical execution.
  • Anticipate challenges and engineer solutions to keep each show running smoothly.
  • Optimize technician workflow, equipment allocation, and logistics to deliver seamless event execution.

Client Experience & Delivery

  • Be the primary point of contact for clients and venue staff—on site, on call, and in planning.
  • Conduct site visits, creative planning sessions, and pre-event walkthroughs.
  • Actively engage throughout event execution to resolve issues and deliver polished, memorable experiences.
  • Ensure Moonrise AV's reputation for effortless execution and client delight remains intact.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead a mix of freelancers and full-time staff under Moonrise's production aesthetic and operational demands.
  • Hire, mentor, coach, and evaluate technical and production personnel.
  • Build a team culture rooted in accountability, creativity, and shared excellence.
  • Oversee scheduling, pay logistics, and performance feedback in partnership with leadership.

Qualifications & What Makes You Shine

  • 3+ years of experience in live event AV, production, or technical operations.
  • 2+ years in a leadership, operations, or team management role.
  • Proven track record closing sales and owning full sales cycles in a service/production business.
  • Deep working knowledge of AV systems, live streaming, lighting, and signal workflows.
  • Outstanding communication, client engagement, and relationship skills.
  • Strong business acumen, comfort with budgets, and an ability to balance creative vision with financial discipline.
  • Proficiency in productivity and CRM tools.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be mobile, attending events across multiple venues as needed.

Core Attributes & Mindset

  • Design-Centric Problem Solver: Keen eye for detail, with the ability to translate creative vision into technical execution.
  • Client Advocate: You build trust through transparency, responsiveness, and delivering above promise.
  • Operational Craftsman: You make complex logistics feel effortless through precise planning and execution.
  • Growth-Oriented Leader: You help the team and the business level up.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You thrive working cross-functionally—with clients, venue staff, and technical partners.

Work Environment & Expectations

You'll split time between office, warehouse, and venue floor. The role involves moderate physical work—lifting, installing, and coordinating gear—and requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.

Moonrise AV maintains a professional, safety-oriented, and creative atmosphere—and you'll be part of upholding that standard across every show.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience
  • Commission / Incentives: Earned based on sales results, venue utilization, and profitability
  • Total Opportunity: Designed to reward your input, growth, and impact
