Position Overview

The VA Finger Lakes Health Care System seeks a Board Certified/Board Eligible Gastroenterologist to provide specialized digestive health services to our Veterans. This position offers the opportunity to serve those who have served our nation while working in a collaborative, mission-driven healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services to VA beneficiaries on-site
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures
  • Manage and treat digestive system disorders including but not limited to:
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Liver disease
  • GERD and other esophageal disorders
  • Colorectal cancer screening and prevention
  • Collaborate with primary care physicians and other specialists
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation in accordance with VA standards
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Provide consultation services as requested

Required Qualifications

Licensure:

  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia
  • No history of restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered, or denied medical licenses

Board Certification:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology subspecialty by the ABIM

Additional Certifications:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or equivalency
  • Must maintain all continuing education requirements for board certification

Credentialing Requirements:

  • Must successfully complete VA credentialing and privileging process per VHA Directives and
  • Services cannot begin until approval by Facility Medical Executive Board and Medical Center Director
  • Must maintain credentials and privileges in good standing throughout contract period

Documentation Requirements

  • Annual submission of current certification documentation to VA Contracting Officer's Representative (COR)
  • Maintenance of all required continuing medical education (CME) credits
  • Current and ongoing compliance with all VA medical staff requirements

  • On-site position at Rochester Community Based Outpatient Clinic
