General Description and Classification Standards
Provides supervision and direction to the Airport Operations Representatives II of the Airport Operations Division – Landside Team. Manages staff, monitors safety and airport operations, and directs short and long range operations strategies to maintain the safety and security of the airport. Conducts facility and roadway audits, monitors construction projects, and reports on status. May assume responsibility for the business unit in the absence of the Assistant Operations Director.
Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to act as shift supervisor for the Airport Operations Division.
Supervision Received
Normally receives guidance regarding group objectives, scheduling, unusual priorities, etc. but is free to set work methods and individual assignments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.
Supervises and evaluates staff and ensures assignments are completed within standards. Counsels staff with regard to individual performance and plans developmental activities as needed. May supervise other non-DOA staff e.g. Guest Relations, etc. providing support to the airport.
Responds to emergencies and coordinates their resolution while providing updates to executive staff. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal stress when confronted with an emergency. Assists within Airport's Incident Command Structure. Responsible for decisions that stabilize the situation, affect the life safety, and preserve property.
Plans, organizes and directs the daily activities of the Operations staff. Assigns staff according to daily need. Develops and modifies work schedules to ensure adequate shift coverage.
Develops recovery efforts and activities to return the Airport back to normal operations.
Communicates effectively and exchanges information in a professional and positive manner with customers, tenants, airport employees and other staff members.
Interacts with federal, state and local agencies concerning operational procedures and initiatives. Works extensively with TSA on a daily basis to ensure the safe and efficient movement of passengers through the airport's security checkpoints.
Provides operational expertise and is responsible for interacting and maintaining positive relationships with other departments and airport stakeholders.
Performs daily checks of the airport's terminals, concourses, parking lots, curbsides, airport access roadways and other airport facilities.
Prepares and presents various reports and documents including daily logs and reports for incidents, complaints, maintenance requests and regulatory compliance issues.
Determines training needs for individuals assigned to shift of responsibility. Provides on-the-job, classroom, and team training opportunities.Assists with the management of several airport contracts.
Prepares a variety of reports and documents to meet requirements of security directives.
Job requires working shift work to include weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and support for other shifts. May be subject to hold over and recall for emergencies, including inclement weather.
Administrative Duties
Reviews daily reports, logs, and forms for accuracy.
Monitors supplies and equipment and keeps appropriate staff apprised of needs.
Attends airport related meetings and seminars, as necessary.
Keeps abreast of all airport, local, and DOA regulations, safety and compliance requirements.
Ensures all departmental plans and SOGs always remain current.
Record Keeping and Documentation
Ensures records of all incidents occurring in each shift are maintained.
Decision Making
Develops revisions to policies and procedures when needed and submits recommendations to the Assistant Director.
Makes decisions on routine staff issues and procedures within prescribed guidelines.
Leadership Provided
Provides management and direction to operations staff and other contractors working with the Operations Division. Serves as mentor and trainer to newer staff members. Able to communicate effectively with supervisors, stakeholders, and the public in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Design and implement security solutions that addresses complex business challenges across a full range of stakeholders with competing interests.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of applicable federal, state and local aviation regulations regarding airport operations.
Knowledge of sources of information necessary to maintain subject matter competence.
Good skill in using computers and other equipment utilized by the airport. Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
Ability to understand, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and policy regarding airport operations.
Ability to effectively communicate and interact with managers, employees, customers, and the public.
