Job Summary
The Library Supervisor / Expert is a highly specialized and experienced professional responsible for providing advanced knowledge and expertise in library science. This role involves designing and implementing innovative library services, conducting research, offering guidance to internal library personnel, and ensuring best practices in library management. The supervisor / expert collaborates with educational agencies, educational institutions, community organizations, and a variety of assorted personnel in an attempt to enhance the quality and accessibility of library services and promote lifelong learning.
Primary Responsibilities
The assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency's operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts. Develop and implement advanced library programs, services, and initiatives. Conduct research and analysis to identify trends, best practices, and areas for improvement in library services. Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to internal library personnel, helping them enhance their skills and knowledge. Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of library programs and initiatives, developing recommendations for improvements as needed. Collaborate with educational agencies, educational institutions, community organizations, and a variety of assorted personnel in an attempt to promote library services and initiatives. Design and deliver professional development workshops and training sessions for internal library personnel. Advocate for policies and initiatives that support the advancement of library services and access to information. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to library activities, research findings, and program outcomes. Cultivate a positive and constructive work environment that supports collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Stay current with the latest research, trends, and developments in library science and information management.
Knowledge And Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively. Empathy and patience in working with a variety of assorted personnel. Proficiency in using library and information management systems and software.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in library management or a related field.
Extensive knowledge of library science principles, practices, and technologies.
Proven experience in conducting research, data analysis, and program evaluation.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of assorted personnel, including educators, community leaders, and internal library personnel.
Experience in designing and delivering professional development and training programs.
Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to library services.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in library science and information management.
Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee's demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
