Job Summary: The Nurse Educator/Infection Preventionist LPN or RN is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing educational programs for healthcare staff while overseeing the facility's infection prevention and control program. This role ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and promotes best practices to prevent and control infections within the facility.

Nurse Educator/Infection Preventionist LPN or RN Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement in-service education programs for facility employees.
  • Assess the educational needs of staff and develop training materials accordingly.
  • Stay updated with current infection control practices and regulations to inform educational content.
  • Develop and implement infection control policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the facility to identify and mitigate potential infection risks.
  • Monitor and report on the incidence and trends of infections.
  • Investigate and respond to reports of infections.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement infection control programs.
  • Stay up-to-date with current infection control practices and regulations.
  • Provide guidance and education to patients and families on infection control measures.
  • Ensure compliance with infection-related regulations from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Operationalize guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within the facility.
  • Prepare and present reports to healthcare professionals, departments, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide education, training, and demonstration of hygiene practices to healthcare staff.
  • Investigate infection outbreaks and formulate methods for immediate response and containment.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret infection control data.
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals and departments to ensure the implementation of infection control practices.

Nurse Educator/Infection Preventionist LPN or RN Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with a current VA state license.
  • Certification in Infection Control & Prevention (CIC) is required
  • At least one year of experience in staff development and infection control.
  • Excellent technical, assessment, and documentation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of standards of practice and regulations for long-term care/sub-acute care.

This role is essential in maintaining a safe and healthy environment within healthcare facilities by ensuring that staff are well-educated and that infection prevention and control measures are effectively implemented and adhered to.
