Associate Director, Student Affairs and Residential Life

The Associate Director for Student Affairs and Residential Life, White Plains Campus, is responsible for supporting the general management of the department in the areas of student affairs and residential life. The individual in this role will assist in developing and monitoring activities to enhance the intellectual, emotional, and personal growth of students and improve the overall law school experience for the entire student body. The Associate Director for Student Affairs and Residential Life will directly supervise the Residence Director (RD) and 5 to 6 Resident Assistant (RA) staff members. In collaboration with the Dean for Student & Campus Affairs, the individual in this role will ensure that housing revenue, at a minimum, meets budgeted revenue including summer housing opportunities.
Position Duties
- Meet regularly with the campus student government, oversee JD student programs, manage development of student organization strategic plans, and track student program spending as well as student program campus fundraising.
- Manage overall communications to students along with the Dean for Student & Campus Affairs and oversee the work of the student government and the 25+ active student organizations of the law school.
- Provide administrative support including working in administrative systems such as e-Procurement, Chrome River, and Contracts Administrator.
- Conduct regular one-on-ones with Residence Hall staff.
- Manage the RD and RA training and development programs in August and January each academic year.
- Coordinate the part time Residence Director recruitment and hiring processes.
- Collaborate with HR to update and maintain position descriptions for all housing positions.
- Plan and implement on-boarding for all new Residential Life staff and coordinate on-going training and development.
- Coordinate efforts of the RA class.
- Provide leadership for the department in various aspects and projects assigned by the Dean for Student & Campus Affairs.
- Serve as hearing officer for high-level cases, and as appeals officer for mid-level cases when assigned.
- Enforce residential life policies.
- Collaborate with the Dean for Student & Campus Affairs and residence hall staff to develop communities of excellence within the residence hall.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Supervision Exercised
Provide supervision and support of the Residence Director (RD) staff and the Resident Assistant (RA) staff in Dannat Hall.
Position Qualifications
- BA degree required; advanced degree in student affairs preferred.
- Previous residential experience, excellent leadership, management, and interpersonal skills required.
- This is considered a mid-level student affairs management position. This position will require excellent communication, both verbal and written.
- Familiarity with database management and MS Office programs; requires the ability to learn and adapt to emerging technologies.
Work Hours
This is a full-time in-person position with significant responsibilities. There are several points during each year at which this staff member may be required to work evenings and weekends (e.g. "all hands" events such as move-in weekend, closing processes, RA selection and Orientation in the summer and winter). This staff member will also be required to be available by phone to respond to issues when on call. Daily operating hours for this position are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm in the Office of the Dean for Student & Campus Affairs.
