The BCHSI, established in 2015, serves as an academic hub for UCSF faculty, students, trainees, and staff who utilize computational methodologies to address topics in health and wellness. BCHSI faculty aspire to lead the world in creating and applying new paradigms of computational sciences to develop next-generation insights that advance the field of precision medicine and address society's most pressing health challenges. The successful candidate will be an established leader in bioinformatics, computational biology, and/or clinical informatics with demonstrated research excellence in computational, quantitative, or bioinformatics methodology, and exceptional administrative and organizational skills. This individual will be responsible for setting the strategic direction and vision for the Institute, ensuring alignment with its mission and goals. The Director will provide comprehensive leadership, management, and stewardship of the Institute's academic missions, including advancing excellence in research, education, and training. The individual chosen will guide the overall direction of BCHSI, fostering innovation, collaboration, and impact in the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology, and will:

  • Cultivate relationships across the campus among other departments and schools, across the UC System, with technology companies and entrepreneurs, and with national and international colleagues; and
  • Work collaboratively with San Francisco and Bay Area community leaders to identify learning and research opportunities that will benefit all.

An MD and/or PhD (or equivalent degree) is required.
