Benefits Specialist Position Summary:

The Benefits Specialist will identify and obtain appropriate insurance benefits and authorizations to ensure accurate and efficient billing processes for services provided by the clinic. The role of the Benefits Specialist is to work collaboratively with clients, providers, the billing department and insurance carriers to ensure optimal reimbursement.

Benefits Specialist Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor accounts, answer questions, follow up on insurance benefits issues
  • Medicaid, Managed Medicaid, Medicare and Commercial Insurance clients
  • Verify, update and manage these accounts
  • Manage and obtain necessary authorizations
  • Work with the billing department regarding rejections and denials of claims
  • Work with insurance companies to resolve issues
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for all active clients from daily appointment listing report, also as necessary due to changes in clients' insurances
  • Work Benefit Issue Alerts/Tasks and any reports needed to monitor clients' accounts and work towards resolving any benefit issues
  • Meet and assist clients with Benefit Issues, either in the clinic or via phone
  • Assist client with problem solving issues with their coverage or lack of
  • Educate clients on Benefits and review financial options for payment
  • Offers sliding scale agreement information and applications to client
  • Directs clients to billing department for set up of payment plans for back balances
  • Assist with collection of copays, coinsurance, deductibles and self-pay monies.
  • Assist clients with communication with their insurance company
  • Train and become a New York State Assistor to be able to assist clients in contacting Medicaid/State in choosing a plan that all of their medical providers par with
  • Refer clients to the insurance plan Enrollment Specialists for issues with enrollment and recertification
  • Assist clients with transitioning from Out of Network Benefits to an In Network Insurance
  • Obtain Transitional Authorization or Single Case Agreement when allowed for Out of Network clients
  • Answer therapist/staff/team questions regarding clients' insurance and benefits
  • Communicate with Insurance Provider Relations Reps regarding issues
  • Training, webinars, seminars as needed
  • Communicating new information as needed to team
  • Performs other duties, responsibilities and related tasks as assigned.

 

Benefits Specialist Qualifications:  

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years healthcare billing and benefit experience working in a medical/clinical setting with exceptional customer service skills. High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associates/Bachelors Degree preferred. Certified as a New York State of Health Assistor preferred but not required. Knowledge of typing, ability to use various computer applications in the Windows environment, to include Word, Excel and Outlook preferred. Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.  Valid NYS Driver's license and reliable transportation required. 

Pay Rate: $21.00-$23.00/hour
