Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Specialist On-Call/Front Office to join our team. The ideal person will have a broad understanding of Shelter operations and be responsible for on-demand, on-call tasks, as well as Front Desk duties, with minimal supervision. The Shelter Specialist On-Call/Front Office person will be able to identify and assist with tasks that complement the duties of other shelter staff. Special projects and tasks may be assigned to the ideal candidate by the Animal Care Manager or Director of Operations. We will also have a PT strictly On-Call position available as well.

Responsibilities

  • Carry the On-Call phone during determined on-call hours and take incoming calls and texts regarding lost or found animals and maintain detailed On Call Pick-Up Logs based on incoming texts and calls regarding those animals.
  • Determine if SWCHS can provide assistance to texters and callers by matching their location to SWCHS service area.
  • Respond to location in a timely manner.
  • Safely transport stray animals to and from SWCHS with the shelter van.
  • Maintain a positive and healthy work relationship with the Wood County Humane Officer and area Police Departments.
  • Have a sound understanding of the terms of the municipal agreements with SWCHS and follow in regards to lost or found animals.
  • Demonstrate safe and appropriate animal handling at all times.
  • Be aware of the census and demands in both the dog and cat rooms and be prepared to assist in daily tasks.
  • Keep current on front desk procedures and take direction from the Front Office Manager.
  • Assist with adoptions and incoming phone calls at the Front Office.
  • Ensure excellent customer service focused on maintaining and improving relationships in all aspects of our client - related work.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of shelter length of stay and capacity for care.
  • Promote and model positive interpersonal communication and relationship building internally and externally.
  • Maintain proper opening and closing procedures for the Front Office.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Animal care experience required.
  • Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Flexible, positive approach to challenges.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekend shifts and holidays.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Candidates must be able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidates must be committed to treating animals and humans with kindness and respect.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $ $14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
