Medical Coder

Insurance staff member's main duty is to ensure accurate and prompt billing and collection. The goal is to contribute to the accurate preparation of accounts receivable and safeguard the company's income. While performing the duties of this job is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate computer and telephone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision due to computer work throughout the day. Specific sitting abilities required includes the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time and also the ability to work in a confined area. Insurance staff member's need strong communication and multitasking skills and be able to work well with others. The other specific duties include:

• Pull all doctor surgery books and a use practice management reporting system to make deletions and additions to the Coding List by Provider.
• Check hospital reports when they come in to find missing charges not reported in the doctor's surgery books and add to the Coding List.
• Pull demographics and consult/ OP reports from hospitals. Give demographics and any reports that are pulled to staffing assistant to be scanned in and account updated.
• Check the consult slips that are turned in and pull information from hospital if needed and add to Coding list.
• Pull surgery center operative reports each day after they are transcribed.
• Code and post all charges from the Coding List.
