Steele Solutions, Inc. is the nation's leading designer and manufacturer of steel work platforms and mezzanines. We recently launched our automation division to solve one of the biggest challenges in material handling-controls that are too often rebuilt from scratch, full of delays, and unpredictable at startup. With this launch, we're looking for an Electrical Engineer professional to join our automation team in Atlanta, GA (preferred) or Milwaukee, WI *Role does require travel up to 25%-35% for commissioning effort and support.
Summary
Under minimal oversight, this senior-level Electrical Engineer leads the design, execution, and continuous improvement of electrical systems for mid-to-large and highly complex automation projects. This role owns full system design and technical reviews, ensures safety and regulatory compliance, and provides on-site implementation support as needed. Operating with broad autonomy, the engineer serves as a technical lead across multiple concurrent projects, driving scalability, innovation, and cost efficiency. They contribute to the development of internal standards, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and help shape the strategic direction of the electrical engineering discipline within the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

System Architecture & Standardization
- Define and design scalable electrical systems that meet project scope, budget, and performance requirements across multi-system environments.
- Establish, maintain, and enforce standard documentation practices, electrical drawings, BOMs, part libraries, and compliance frameworks.
- Lead system-level design reviews to ensure quality, standard adherence, and risk mitigation.
- Contribute to initiatives that enhance design efficiency, reduce cycle time, and support long-term standardization.
Technical Leadership & Execution
- Lead development of complex electrical systems, including power distribution, MCCs, VFDs, servo systems, panel layouts, safety circuits, and PLC integration.
- Ensure compliance with UL, NEC, IEC, NFPA, and other applicable standards through rigorous technical reviews.
- Drive coordination across controls, mechanical, and project engineering teams for fully integrated system solutions.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and field support for escalated technical issues, both on-site and remotely.
- Oversee delivery of complete redlines, as-builts, and certification packages.
Team Development & Mentorship
- Serve as a primary mentor across all levels of the electrical engineering team, providing technical guidance and structured coaching.
- Lead internal training workshops on design methodologies, tools, and emerging technologies.
- Support technical hiring, onboarding, and long-term professional development planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Controls Engineers to ensure full electro-mechanical alignment and integrated system performance.
- Collaborate with Project Management on forecasting, budgeting, estimating, and risk planning.
- Coordinate with vendors, fabrication partners, and internal stakeholders to manage design handoffs, changes, and deliverables.
- Represent the electrical discipline in executive technical reviews, customer meetings, and cross-functional strategic discussions.
Strategic Growth & Innovation
- Identify industry trends and drive evaluation, prototyping, and implementation of emerging electrical technologies.
- Lead initiatives for design automation, BOM standardization, and internal tool development.
- Contribute to long-term departmental planning, capability building, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Currently seeking two senior levels:
- 5-7 years of experience in industrial electrical design, preferably in automation or material handling or
- 8+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, including lead roles in complex industrial automation projects.
Other Key Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical preferred (or similar software).
- Working knowledge of UL, NEC, and IEC electrical code requirements.
- Ability to read and produce schematics, layout drawings, and panel documentation.
- Familiarity with VFDs, power supplies, terminal blocks, and industrial sensors.
- Ability to travel up to 25%-35% for commissioning effort and support.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills.
