Media Relations Specialist

This role is responsible for supporting BCBSA's proactive, earned media strategy to advance the organization's strategic objectives, drive coverage of key initiatives, and promote a positive industry and brand narrative. Monitor the press inbox, facilitate real-time responses, and arrange interviews with BCBSA experts. Assemble and distribute morning news clips and alerts to senior executives, while staying informed on industry trends and policy issues. Assist in drafting talking points, press releases, media advisories, and other materials, as well as pitch notes to reporters. Continuously update media lists, use Cision software for distributing advisories, manage media coverage tracking, and handle operations for media events.

  • Monitor press inbox, facilitating real-time responses and interviews with BCBSA experts.

  • Assemble and distribute morning news clips and news alerts to senior executives as needed. Monitor industry trends and stay informed on policy issues impacting health care.

  • Assist with the drafting of talking points, press releases, media advisories, executive briefing documents and other materials.

  • Assist with drafting pitch notes to reporters for introductory meetings, new research, and other messages on BCBSA priorities

  • Continuously update and maintain organization media lists. Help identify and elevate opportunities to engage with key reporters on Twitter.

  • Use Cision software and newswires (when applicable) to distribute media advisories and press releases.

  • Work in partnership with insights and analytics team to manage the tracking and reporting of media coverage.

  • Manage operations for media events including materials preparation, assembly of press packets, list building, RSVP tracking and on-site execution.

The posting range for this position is:

$67,517.00-$93,210.57

Qualifications

Education

  • Required Bachelor's Degree communications related or equivalent work experience

Experience

  • 3+ Years media or relevant experience Required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Written and oral communication and editing skills.
    Knowledge of AP style.
    Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality results.
    Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and handle ambiguity.
    interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the media and other key stakeholders.

This job is also eligible for annual bonusincentivepay.
