Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental chairs, and organizing supplies to ensure readiness for patient appointments.
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics by handing instruments and managing materials efficiently.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety according to HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols.
- Operate electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic to accurately document patient information, treatment notes, and medical history.
- Conduct vital signs assessments and monitor patient comfort throughout procedures to ensure safety and well-being.
- Manage medical documentation and records with precision, including medical coding and ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Provide chairside assistance using aseptic techniques while maintaining knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and various dental specialties like prosthodontics or endodontics.
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, confirming patient details, and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Maintain infection control standards by adhering to sterilization protocols and proper handling of medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners.
- Assist with patient education on oral health practices and post-treatment care instructions in a clear, friendly manner.
- Support the team with general clinic duties including inventory management of supplies and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Dental Assistant in a busy dental clinic setting is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is essential for accurate recordkeeping.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security is required.
- Hands-on experience with X-ray procedures, medical imaging tools including 3D scanners, and chairside assisting techniques is necessary.
- Understanding of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures is critical for maintaining a safe environment.
- Background in pediatric dentistry or working with pediatric patients is a plus for engaging younger patients effectively.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and medical coding enhances your ability to support comprehensive patient care.
