Job Overview:

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) engages in the professional practice of communication and swallowing. The SLP recognizes the needs, abilities, values, preferences, interests of individuals and families to whom they provide clinical services, as well as, integrates those factors along with best current research evidence in making clinical decisions.

The SLP provides individualized evaluations, treatment plans, family education and training, as well as, staff education and training to meet the communication and swallowing needs of their patients and families.

In cooperation with other local leaders, offers exceptional care following the Shriners Children's FOCUSED Program, a system-wide model for professional practice that stresses and emphasizes patient-centered care, or always putting the needs of the patients (and their families first). Shriners Spokane is looking for a Speech- Language Pathologist to join our team

Schedule: Part time FTE 0.5 (in person)

The pay range for this position is $36.17/hour - $54.25/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity.

Responsibilities:

  • Implements a systematic patient examination and evaluation utilizing a comprehensive, patient and family-centered approach to decision making incorporating national standards and the AMA CPT Codes
  • Design, develop and implement individualized treatment plans to address presenting symptoms or concerns of a communication and/or swallowing problem or related functional issue to optimize function
  • Uses evidence based practice and advanced instrumentation in the management, and care of individuals with communication, feeding and swallowing, and related disorders
  • Utilizes language appropriate to patient/family level of understanding, and written or demonstrated methods for exercise/activities, and equipment use
  • Supports risk management and compliance initiatives through accurate documentation, which meets payer requirement, regulatory and professional standards
  • Performs self-reflection of personal practice and professional work activities to direct goals for professional growth and development
  • Participates in departmental education through staff in-services and competencies

Qualifications:

Required

  • Master's Speech Pathology
  • Licensed in state of practice
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred

  • 1 year of experience in a health-care setting
  • Expertise in Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Disorders

    Demonstrated clinical expertise in evaluating and treating pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders, particularly related to cerebral palsy and its associated physiological dysfunctions. The ideal candidate will skillfully manage dysphagia and dysarthria in medically complex children and collaborate within interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive, individualized care.
  • Clinical Experience with Neurodevelopmental Populations

    Strong background working with children diagnosed with neurological and developmental disorders such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury, genetic syndromes, and autism spectrum disorder. Applies specialized communication strategies and demonstrates creativity in treatment approaches to meet the complex and varied needs of a diverse client population
  • Proficient in Use of Evidence-Based, Standardized Assessment Tools

    Competence in administering and interpreting standardized measures specific to pediatrics (e.g., CELF-Preschool, Bayley-4, GFTA-3, MBSImP, PEDI-CAT) to inform diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Experience

Familiarity with evaluation and implementation of AAC systems ranging from low-tech to high-tech solutions including eye-gaze for nonverbal or minimally verbal pediatric patients.
- Expertise in G-Tube Weaning and Pediatric Diet ModificationClinically experienced and comfortable in supporting safe, developmentally appropriate G-tube weaning through close collaboration with interdisciplinary rehab and medical, nutrition, and family teams. The ideal candidate will skillfully assess and manage diet textures, liquid consistencies, and sensory-based feeding challenges to promote successful oral feeding progression in coordination with other supporting providers.
- Skilled in Early Language InterventionExperience supporting expressive and receptive language development particularly in a younger pediatric population. Able to adapt and modify treatment styles appropriately based on individualized clinical need.
- Collaborative, Team-Based Approach Aligned with Shriners Values

Works closely with providers, nutritionist, rehab team members, families, community therapists, and vendors to ensure coordinated, family-centered care in line with Shriners Children's mission.
- Commitment to Ongoing Professional Development

Active pursuit of continuing education, certifications, and/or professional memberships (e.g., ASHA, feeding-specific training, neurodevelopmental treatment courses) to maintain clinical excellence in pediatric speech-language pathology.
