1248 Holdings is a rapidly growing family office investment company actively seeking a Legal Associate who will serve as a key legal partner across our family office and various operating companies. This role supports a wide range of legal matters including private investments, entity governance, transactions, employment matters, contracts, and litigation. The ideal candidate will be a confident generalist with strong drafting skills, excellent judgment, and an ability to manage high-volume workstreams independently. 

Responsibilities 

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including NDAs, vendor agreements, loan agreements, leases, and employment agreements.
  • Assist with legal entity formation, corporate maintenance, and management of vendor-led state filings.
  • Support private investments, including subscription agreements, document review and side letters.
  • Assist with transaction work including diligence review, document review and project management.
  • Research and make recommendations to help resolve complex matters.
  • Interface with external counsel and advisors; synthesize their advice for internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to company policy development, risk mitigation efforts, and internal training.

Skills & Knowledge 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage matters across a range of legal disciplines.
  • Highly responsive, well-organized, and comfortable managing multiple competing deadlines.
  • Strong research, writing and communication skills; able to summarize complex legal issues in plain English.
  • Thrives at establishing working relationships throughout functional groups.

Qualifications 

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; admitted to practice law in Missouri, Kansas, or another UBE-recognized state.
  • At least five years of progressive experience, ideally reflecting a balance of technical legal training and practical business judgment. Direct engagement with business leaders and in cross-functional projects are highly valued.
  • Experience in corporate, transactional, or general counsel environments strongly preferred.
  • Prior exposure to private investments a plus.
