$14.80-$21.50/hourlyLee's Summit Parks and Recreation is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Basketball Referee to join the dynamic team at Harris Park Community Center. This position will be working days and/or evenings and is responsible for officiating basketball games, including oversight of event, facility, and spectators.Job Scope
No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.
Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesOfficiate basketball games in accordance with established standards and practices, including, but not limited to: making official calls regarding game, including fouls, maintaining score and time of each period on the scoreboard, keeping track of ball possession, and ensuring control of game and compliance of patrons.
Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of LSPR owned equipment utilized for Basketball league; responsible for reporting equipment and maintenance needs to Recreation Supervisor.
Maintains safety by following LSPR guidelines, policies and procedures; responsible for reporting issues regarding participants to Recreation Supervisor.
Responsible for continual evaluation of Basketball league and advise Recreation Supervisor of observations and recommendations.
Attends staff meetings as directed.
Ensures enforcement of rules and regulations of LSPR, including, but not limited to, rules related to Basketball league.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:Must be at least 16 years of age. Experience in athletic/sports management rules and procedures preferred.
Specific Experience and Certification Qualifications:
Minimum two years' experience as a basketball referee required.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to communicate with patrons professionally and respectfully.
Skills in organizing, planning and preparing materials and evaluating goals and objectives.
Ability to analyze community needs, problem solve and implement solutions, and relate to the needs of all age groups.
Ability to establish good working relationship with public, subordinates and supervisors.
Ability to maintain self-control and composure and set a professional example for the staff and participants.
Ability to understand, analyze and implement ideas and concepts. Skills in communications and providing exceptional patron service.
Basic understanding of athletic and sports management rules and procedures.
Principal Working RelationshipsWorks with Recreation Supervisor, Harris Park Community Center Manager, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation Services and Superintendent of Recreation to gain overall guidance and direction in the conduct of duties. Interacts with departmental personnel to provide quality services and to satisfy operational needs. Interacts with patrons and LSPR employees to foster open communication and positive attitude.
Physical Classification:
- Medium: Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to raise or lower an object from one level to another, transport an object, exert force upon an object so that it moves away from or toward the force, or otherwise move objects.

The physical activity of this position:

- Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.

- Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

- Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

- Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
- Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
- Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
