Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations using ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems to accurately identify substance use and mental health disorders
- Deliver individual and group counseling sessions utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, behavioral therapy, and applied behavior analysis to promote recovery and behavioral change
- Develop and implement tailored treatment plans that incorporate addiction counseling, mental health counseling, case management, and crisis management strategies
- Facilitate family and child counseling sessions when appropriate, supporting holistic recovery approaches for clients of all ages
- Maintain detailed medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and medical terminology standards
- Coordinate with healthcare providers for diagnostic evaluation, medication management, and integrated behavioral health services such as PTSD care and hospital-based treatments
- Engage in data collection and research activities to monitor treatment outcomes and improve clinical practices
- Manage crisis situations effectively by providing crisis intervention services and ensuring patient safety at all times
Requirements
- Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (C-SAC) credential required; additional certifications in psychotherapy or mental health counseling are a plus
- Proven experience in home & community care settings, hospitals, or outpatient clinics involving behavioral health or addiction treatment
- Strong knowledge of addiction medicine, mental health disorders, trauma-informed care including PTSD management, and crisis intervention techniques
- Familiarity with medical documentation standards, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding for billing purposes, and medical terminology
- Excellent skills in patient assessment, case management, social work principles, and diagnostic evaluation processes
- Ability to conduct intake assessments effectively while maintaining confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines
- Experience with group therapy facilitation, social work practices, behavior management strategies, and applied behavior analysis techniques
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments
