The Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) at Roosevelt is comprised of three Conservatories: Music, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Theatre. Job Duties:

  • Successful retention of students by means of effective and healthy pedagogy.

  • Submission of a studio syllabus each semester (university-mandated template will be provided) documenting all studio policies, expectations, procedures, and grading criteria.

This position entails the following category of instruction:

Lecturer for "Social Constructs of Western Performing Arts" (3 credit hours)

The second in an innovative three-course academic performing arts series, this course teaches students about historical origins and current effects of social constructions and norms within the performing arts, especially Western art music, theatre, and dance. These include, but are not limited to, philosophy, economics, politics, technology, institutionalization, and pedagogy.

The course is interdisciplinary, including students majoring in Western art music, contemporary and jazz music, acting, musical theatre, and musical theatre dance, among others. Two other sections of the course are being taught by a full-time instructors who can help guide the development of the course as needed.

Weekly class meetings taught onsite at the Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) Chicago campus, working with students enrolled in the following degree programs:

  • Bachelor of Music;
  • Bachelor of Music-Music Education;
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts

Potential for teaching in other relevant areas as assigned.

This is a part-time position with a cap of 20 total teaching hours per week.

The salary for this position is $3,982 per 3 credit course.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Successful applicants will have working expertise in various tap dance styles and knowledge of the history and culture of tap dance.

  • Experience in collegiate-level teaching; experience in large classroom settings and with performance-oriented students preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Equipment Operated

Studio sound system, basic office/ classroom equipment and Smart-classroom equipment (computer, monitor, projector and audio equipment).

Working Conditions

Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10-15 pounds).
