Staff Accountant (Contract)

South Jordan, Utah (Hybrid)

Our client, a leading company in the financial services industry, is looking for a Staff Accountant to join a high-performing finance team. This role offers a chance to work across the full lifecycle of payment activity, maintaining account accuracy, investigating exceptions, and preparing partner statements. You'll work independently in a collaborative environment and help improve processes that support core financial operations.

This is a five to six month contract opportunity with the potential to make an immediate impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review daily transaction reports to identify and resolve exception items and discrepancies.
  • Reconcile and maintain clearing, residual, and reserve-style accounts to ensure balances are accurate.
  • Investigate unusual items, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions to clear exceptions promptly.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly schedules and reports to support financial close and operations.
  • Compile and issue periodic statements to external partners and ensure timely settlement of balances.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and assist with ad-hoc accounting projects.
  • Interact professionally with external partners and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and clarify transactions.
  • Adhere to internal controls, accounting policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
:

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance, or a related field — or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of accounting or financial services experience.
  • Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with common office software.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to work directly with partners and stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to spot anomalies, research root causes, and drive issues to resolution.
