WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (Evening and weekend requirements for on-call emergencies.) 

Position is not available for a hybrid telework workweek 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Supervises and assigns work to staff relating to electrical systems and repairs. Performs master craftsman level work related to electrical repair and maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

• Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures;

• Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel;

• Considerable knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;

• Critical thinking and problem solving skills;

• Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;

• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;

• Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on electrical systems;

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; 

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or equivalent;

• Five years of experience directly related to electrical systems installation and repair.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

• Hold a valid electrician license determined by the North Carolina Board of Electrical Contractors;

• Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements;

• Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associates degree or technical school training in electrical systems;

• Experience with computerized maintenance management software, preferably MAXIMO.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and assigns work to staff relating to electrical repairs.

Supervises staff to ensure work is completed correctly and in a timely manner; provides on the job training to electrical staff.

Performs experienced or master craftsman level work associated with electrical maintenance and repair by responding to work orders, troubleshooting appropriate measures, and performs work as required by the work order.

Assists supervisor in recognizing and evaluating occupational safety hazards and takes appropriate actions to protect employee and public health and safety.

Ensures procedure compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, required safety training as specified in the Safety Manual, occupational health practices, and establishing a safe work environment within the electrical shop.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors and staff members of external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
