Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Events Center Technician 2 (Facilities Operations Tech) for Nevada Athletics. The position will assist the Assistant Athletics Director, Lawlor Events Center in the day-to-day operations of University of Nevada Athletics. This position identifies maintenance issues throughout the athletic venues to determine the need of maintenance or repairs.

The position coordinates staff with venue requests, including furniture/equipment moves and assembly, and performing light maintenance work. The position assists in the preparation of required work orders, prioritizes, tracks progress and communicates with coaches and staff concerning work; completes regular inspections for cleanliness, orderliness, maintenance, safety and ease of passage. The position monitors newspapers, periodicals, websites, and other media to identify events that may have an effect on facilities and other campus resources. This position coordinates with maintenance regarding general supply inventory and equipment storage for assigned venue including organization, and coordinates the maintenance of storage operations and site safety and security for assigned venue. This position manages the setup of the game/event related equipment at Lawlor Events Center and communicates to coaches and appropriate staff information regarding use of all athletics facilities. This position provides supervision to students and temp workers.

Other duties include but are not limited to:

Facilities Operations:

  • Assist with the management of all indoor and outdoor athletics facilities.

  • Assist with minor maintenance ex. lighting, carpentry, plumbing, etc.

  • Make recommendations to Assistant Athletics Director, Lawlor Events Center

Event Setup:

  • Coordinate with support staff to ensure proper setup for special events within ICA facilities

  • Assist with all event management and serve as Event Manager for selected sports

  • Assist with all set-up/breakdown, crowd control and other related duties as assigned

Work Orders:

  • Prepares and executes work orders and arranges building services through appropriate university departments and Facilities Management Xpress systems

  • Process work orders and purchase requisitions for work related to ICA facilities

Outside Vendor Coordinator:

  • Coordinate various needs and services for ICA Facilities

  • Order scaffolding, tents and other event related items as needed

  • Order signage as needed

  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of ICA carts

 

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of skilled work experience in equipment set-up and teardown at an events center or sports arena, one year which included coordinating the work of others in the set-up and teardown of related equipment; OR Two years of experience as an Events Center Technician I in Nevada State service; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Pursuant to NRS , this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

 

Physical Demands

This position requires lifting and carrying up to 50 to 100 pounds occasionally.

This position may work at heights in excess of 65 feet above the ground.

 

Schedule

Varied work schedule to include days, nights, weekends and holidays.

 

Compensation Grade

Grade 31 (Entry, Step 01 $26.07/hr. – Step 05 $30.85/hr.)

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
