We are seeking a Deputy Director, Planning & Scheduling, to be based in the Houston, TX area:

Position Overview:

The Deputy Director, Planning & Scheduling is responsible for leading the development, standardization, and oversight of all planning & scheduling processes of the engineering and procurement functions for our major capital projects. This new position will be based in our Houston, TX office and report to the Vice President, Planning & Scheduling.

This position will collaborate with Company leadership and project management to develop and maintain project execution plans and schedules while also providing leadership and oversight of planning & scheduling professionals from our contractors on our projects. In addition, this position will implement robust planning & scheduling processes and procedures that will be able to be replicated across all scopes of work.  

The role will also require effective communication to Project and Executive Management for timely decision making and incorporation of stakeholder input. The role will have potential for travel to other project locations and contractor offices. 

The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise in EPC project controls functions with strategic leadership skills to ensure robust forecasting, progress measurement, and integration of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) schedules into integrated master schedules

Key Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

Policy, Process, and Governance

  • Develop and implement corporate-level planning & scheduling policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure consistency across all project functions.
  • Establish standardized work processes, templates, and reporting frameworks for internal and contractor use.
  • Define and enforce requirements for schedule baselines, progress measurement, forecasting, and schedule change control.
  • Lead development of a Planning & Scheduling Governance Manual and ensure alignment with corporate project controls and risk management frameworks.

Engineering and Procurement Oversight

  • Oversee engineering and procurement planning & scheduling activities across all disciplines.
  • Ensure deliverable-based planning is fully integrated with procurement milestones, vendor manufacturing schedules, and construction priorities.
  • Support implementation of engineering progress curves, key performance indicators, and forecast models.
  • Coordinate schedule integration between EPC contractors, vendors, and Owner teams to maintain visibility of upstream risks affecting construction readiness.
  • Lead schedule reviews and validation of contractor-provided engineering and procurement schedules.

Project Integration and Reporting

  • Develop and maintain the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) covering the full project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate and align IMS with Advanced Work Packaging philosophy and methodology.
  • Implement advanced analytics and visualization tools to monitor performance and identify variances and deviations from plan.
  • Prepare executive-level schedule briefings, dashboards, and recovery recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Coordinate with project leadership to develop schedule risk analysis and contingency strategies.

Leadership and Mentoring

  • Provide direct leadership and technical guidance to planning & scheduling staff across functions and projects.
  • Develop and implement a planning competency framework and training program for the organization.
  • Build a culture of proactive forecasting, accountability, and continuous improvement within the planning & scheduling team.
  • Contribute to planning & scheduling team performance management.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning leads to ensure planning alignment and transparency.
  • Serve as a key interface between corporate planning leadership and contractor planning teams.
  • Support executive decision-making through scenario analysis and what-if schedule modeling.
  • Participate in project reviews, audits, and readiness assessments.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • 10+ years of immersive planning & execution experience in major Oil & Gas engineering and construction projects, particularly in support of engineering and procurement functions. LNG and Power Generation project experience preferred.
  • Proven track record developing and implementing scheduling policies and systems in a major capital project environment.
  • Deep understanding of engineering deliverable management, procurement lifecycles, and construction sequencing.
  • Experience leading planning & scheduling teams.
  • Expert in Primavera P6 and Acumen Fuse/Risk.
  • Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM), critical path method (CPM), and schedule risk analysis.
  • Familiarity with major EPC contracting structures and interfaces between Owner and Contractor.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, and Office Timeline platforms.
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL or similar relational database management systems preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic with ability to effectively prioritize, meet deadlines, adapt to changing priorities and business needs, and succeed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to efficiently summarize and prioritize information.
