Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary: You will be responsible for assisting in the design, development, and testing of miniature bearings used in various precision applications. Working closely with the VP of Operations and high-end aerospace customers, you will contribute to the creation of high-quality bearings that meet industry standards and customer requirements. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of mechanical engineering, particularly in the specialized area of miniature bearings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Design and Development: Collaborate with VP of Operations and customers to design and develop miniature bearings for diverse applications such as robotics, medical devices, aerospace, and space systems. CAD systems - Creo PTC or AutoCAD.
  • Process Engineering: Develop, refine, and troubleshoot manufacturing processes for grinding, lapping, honing, assembly, and inspection. Work with machinists and technicians to improve yields, reduce scrap, and optimize production efficiency.
  • Conduct Research: Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and technologies related to miniature bearings. Conduct research to identify innovative solutions and improve existing designs.
  • Prototype Development: Support the prototyping process by assisting in the creation of prototypes, conducting tests, and analyzing results to assess performance and durability.
  • Product and Tooling Support: Design and develop fixtures, mandrels, and assembly tooling. Develop and support new bearing designs, duplex assemblies, and special configurations.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in implementing quality assurance processes to ensure that miniature bearings meet or exceed industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of design specifications, test procedures, and results. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings to team members and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with internal procedures and customer specifications (ABMA, MIL-Spec, ASTM, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years experience in precision machining, manufacturing; preferably in bearings, aerospace, or medical device industries.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles and materials science.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for design and modeling (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, GD & T). CreoPTC preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with precision machining and metrology practices.
  • Basic understanding of tribology, materials (440c and ceramics), and heat treatment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies in miniature bearing engineering.
  • BONUS: Experience with cleanroom assembly, vacuum-compatible or dry-lube bearings, or automated dispensing systems (e.g. EFD).
  • Knowledge of electrical systems.

Working Conditions:

  • This position typically operates in an office or laboratory environment.
  • May involve occasional travel to manufacturing facilities or customer sites.
  • May require working with machinery and equipment used in testing and prototyping.
