Student workers respond to equipment and chemical needs of laboratory students and instructors who come to the stockroom window. Each student worker must pay special attention to safety, being aware of the health & safety of themselves and others in carrying out job functions. Student workers will be responsible for cleaning laboratory benches and hoods, maintaining collection vessels for laboratory products and by-products, preparing laboratory supplies for courses and distributing supplies to each laboratory, all as directed by the stockroom manager. Strong communication skills are a must, with the ability to communicate problems to stockroom manager. Maintain and timely submit true work hours. Maintain stockroom orderliness and cleanliness, including the stockroom lab notebook and identify inventory needs.
Physical Demands
Regularly requires standing, bending, and lifting of at least 10 lbs. Occasional lifting of 35 to 40 lbs.
Required Qualifications
Must have taken the following Chemistry laboratory classes at UNO . Completion of UNO's General Chemistry II and its lab with a grade of B or better is REQUIRED to work in the West stockroom. Completion of UNO's Organic Chemistry II and its lab with a grade of B or better is REQUIRED to work in the East stockroom. Must be able to calculate amounts of chemicals needed for common solutions and reagents.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer work-study eligible students, although non-work study students may be hired if ALL of the other requirements are met. Student worker must have a history of reliability in work and work hours. Have availability for full morning (8 to Noon) or afternoon (1 to 5) or evening (5:30 PM to 9 PM) shift and have a history of working well in a customer service position. Study of Chemistry beyond that required for the position is preferred.
Work Environment
Chemistry Stockroom – Laboratory type setting with chemical storage shelves and containers.
Work Schedule
8:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesdays; 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Wednesdays; 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Thursdays; 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Fridays
