Director of Accounting and Tax

Summary:

This position follows a hybrid schedule, requiring two/three days at our corporate office in Merrillville, Indiana, and two/three days working remotely.

Summary

We are seeking an experienced accounting leader and CPA to oversee ownership entity accounting, family office reporting, and coordination of income tax compliance with external advisors. This role is intentionally balanced, blending hands-on accounting and financial reporting with an intermediate level of tax knowledge. The ideal candidate has strong GAAP fundamentals, experience with multi-entity or flow-through tax structures, and the ability to clearly communicate financial matters with ownership and partners.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

• Manage the income tax function, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth within the Finance team.
• Oversee the year-end review and timely filing of all federal, state, and local income tax returns.
• Provide quarterly income tax projections and reporting to owners.
• Ensure income tax compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements on an ongoing basis.
• Evaluate income tax implications from strategic business decisions.
• Manage family office and related trusts accounting and reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timeliness.
• Partner with advisors and external consultants to support both tax strategy and family office accounting needs.

• A broad and strong understanding of GAAP with the ability to support both accounting and tax needs.
• An intermediate level of understanding of federal and state income taxes for flow-through entities.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and demonstrated ability to work with financial systems (e.g., Infor).
• Demonstrated commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and ethical standards.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required); MBA or Master's degree (preferred).
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA, required).
• 7+ years of progressive experience in tax and/or accounting; combined experience in both areas preferred.
• Experience in private or family office environments (preferred).
• Experience in public accounting (preferred).
