Position Summary
The Patient Intake & Security Specialist is the first point of contact for patients and caregivers entering our licensed medical cannabis dispensary. This role combines welcoming and assisting patients with maintaining a safe, compliant environment. Responsibilities include verifying eligibility, managing the check-in process, assisting new patients with medical marijuana license applications, and ensuring accurate registration in our system. Specialists also monitor entry and exit activity, support security protocols, and collaborate with the retail team to deliver a seamless, professional patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Check-In & Registration
- Greet patients and caregivers with professionalism and compassion
- Verify required documentation and eligibility; maintain accurate digital patient records
- Assist patients in applying for or renewing their medical marijuana license online
- Register new patients and caregivers in the dispensary system, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Provide clear instructions on dispensary processes, wait times, and next steps
- Engage with customers about their needs, products in specific, and any current deals or promotions.
Security & Compliance
- Monitor entry and exit to maintain a secure, controlled environment
- Enforce ID checks, visitor protocols, and dispensary access policies
- Use of equipment such as x-ray machines and magnetometers to conduct security

- Collaborate with management and security personnel to address issues quickly and

- Uphold all regulatory requirements and internal SOPs for patient intake and facility safety
- De-escalate situations tactfully and with clear communication
Customer Support & Team Collaboration
- Answer patient questions with accuracy and professionalism, escalating complex issues to management
- Support the retail team with patient flow, ensuring efficient service, and minimal wait times.
- Contribute to a welcoming, orderly environment by assisting with line management and lobby cleanliness.
- Participate in team communications to align on registration updates, promotions, and compliance priorities.
Required Qualifications
- At least 21 years old; legally authorized to work in the United States
- Successful completion of background check
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to remain calm, professional, and
- courteous under pressure.
- Basic touchscreen and computer proficiency; ability to quickly learn registration systems and online licensing portals.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in data entry and document handling.
- Reliable transportation and availability for posted schedules which include varied shifts, holidays, and weekends.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and manage patient flow in a busy, high-volume environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a dispensary, pharmacy, medical office, or other regulated
- environment.
- Prior experience in security, military, or law enforcement is a plus.
- Knowledge of cannabis terminology, state regulations, and medical marijuana program requirements.
- Experience with security, reception, or compliance-driven workflows
This person will be:
- The first point of contact for all patients and caregivers, setting the tone for a safe, professional, and welcoming experience.
- A calm, observant presence who balances warmth with vigilance — friendly to patients, firm on compliance.
- Detail-oriented and precise when verifying IDs, patient documentation, and intake records to meet DC cannabis regulations.
- Comfortable with security responsibilities, including monitoring entry/exit activity, enforcing access protocols, and supporting incident response procedures.
- Skilled at de-escalating tense situations with composure and empathy, ensuring the dispensary environment remains safe and professional.
- A team player who supports front-of-house flow, coordinates with security and retail staff, and communicates clearly under pressure.
- Tech-savvy and adaptable, quickly learning new patient management and compliance systems.
- Passionate about serving patients within a regulated cannabis program, maintaining confidentiality and respect at all times.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
