Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Have you wanted an opportunity to secure an advanced satellite broadband telecom service? The Kuiper Security team owns the security of product and operations of Project Kuiper end-to-end. We provide the necessary infrastructure and mechanisms to ensure the security of our satellite constellation and to protect the integrity and confidentiality of our customer data. Our team drives the research & development, deployment and operation of several mission-critical security systems and mechanisms. As the leader of Kuiper Security Incident Response team, you own the outcome of delivering high quality and timely response to reported high severity security issues that impact Kuiper and its customers. You are expected to strike the balance between speed and long term thinking to minimize the immediate impact to Kuiper and its customers and reduce long term risk through identifying long-lasting risk reduction mechanisms.

Key job responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced security leader to join the Kuiper Security team. As a security leader, you will own building and managing a team of Incident Responders and technical leaders, fostering a strong team culture. You and your team will be expected to triage security events, produce novel solutions, and collaborate with product engineering teams to take the right actions in appropriate time frames to mitigate risks. This role combines long term strategic planning to raise the bar on security across the enterprise with the excitement and challenge of quickly reacting to new threat scenarios.

As a security engineering manager at Amazon, you will be expected to speak authoritatively on behalf of your team and your technical knowledge should demonstrate both depth and breadth. You will be responsible for your team's organizational structure and how that team works within the context of the larger Amazon Security team. Leveraging the strengths of individual team members, delegating tasks appropriately and managing delivery of long term projects will all be critical tasks for this role. A security manager has deep knowledge in their domain and is a sought after thought leader across the organization. They have both management and technical expertise and actively participate in the organization's planning processes.

A day in the life

In this role you'll lead a team of engineers, you'll build their careers and help solve complex security problems. You'll create and lead an optimized Incident Response org to respond to novel security issues involving the Kuiper product, ranging from space security, to embedded devices, and cloud services. You identify trends in the issues your team processes and will work with partners to remove these bug classes at source. You influence the security strategy of partner teams to optimize security outcomes for our customers. You'll participate in hiring, development, training, and team leadership. You'll own a part of the team and will be encouraged to grow your ownership and role.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of managing and developing teams experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field
  • Experience in managing and developing teams
  • Knowledge of security of web services, telecommunications, embedded devices, cryptography, network security protocols and operating system security
  • Experience leading an Incident Response function in a tech company.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Knowledge of information security technologies such as security design review, threat modeling, risk analysis, and software testing techniques
  • Experience managing remote team members
  • Experience in managing an IR team that supports products ranging from embedded devices to cloud services.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $157,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $272,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
