Doctoral and Postdoctoral Positions in Carbon Capture and Conversion Analysis

Global CO₂ Initiative (GCI)
at the
University of Michigan
, led by
Professor Daniel Cooper,
is seeking Ph.D. and postdoctoral applicants for multiple positions.

GCI focuses on advancing and evaluating the environmental, economic, and societal aspects of carbon dioxide removal (CDR), particularly carbon capture and utilization (CCU). New projects include:

  • Collaborating with the
    Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT)
    to develop and validate a Korean CO₂ Utilization Life Cycle Assessment Toolkit through global partnerships and applied research.
  • Evaluating the environmental and economic opportunities and barriers to carbon capture and conversion in the American Midwest, and how these complement regional carbon sequestration efforts.

Broader topics of interest include low- and negative-carbon construction materials, carbon-to-fuel/chemical conversion, and the development of harmonized LCA and TEA standards adaptable to international contexts. Depending on the applicant's background, the role may involve both system-level analysis and process-level experimentation. The successful applicant will collaborate with the GCI team, U-M faculty, and partners from industry and national labs.
